"La petite mort" by Dana de Luca

<p> <strong>LA PETITE MORT</strong></p> <p>  </p> <p> <strong><em>(ENG)</em></strong></p> <p>  </p> <p> <em>What pornography is really about, ultimately, isn’t sex but death.</em></p> <p> <em>(Susan Sontag)</em></p> <p>  </p> <p> I started for curiosity, documentary curiosity, I would call it.</p> <p> I did what millions of people do everyday in the web.</p> <p> I clicked the most researched  word, “sex”, and began to watch amateur porn videos.</p> <p> Like a voyeur, a spectator in front of my monitor as a stage, I looked through my camera, operating in the meantime my kind of decontextualization from the pornographic language in which everything is extremely well focused, vulgarised and objectified with the aim to excite the genitals.</p> <p> I aimed to recreate a content from a stream of pornographic images, letting those frames hidden in a temporal flow to broaden in their becomingness and death be found in new images, photographs, in which time and space become abstract.</p> <p> My interest was in writing a visual poem, poetic and intimistic, on the flesh,</p> <p> on loneliness and fragility of bodies nudes and absent, isolated and dematerialized by the pixels and the distance of a monitor screen.</p> <p>  </p> <p> "La petite mort", "the little death", is a French metaphor for referring to the spiritual release that comes with orgasm or to a short period of melancholy or transcendence as a result of the expenditure of the "life force", the feeling which is caused by the release of oxytocin in the brain after the occurrence of orgasm. Literary critic Roland Barthes spoke of  ‘la petite mort’ as the chief objective of reading literature. Ho guardato attraverso il mirino della macchina fotografica, operando nello stesso tempo una mia decontestualizzazione da quel linguaggio pornografico in cui tutto deve essere estremamente a fuoco, oggettivato e volgarizzato  al fine di eccitare i genitali.</p> <p> Ho voluto ricreare un contenuto a partire da un flusso di immagini, lasciando che quei frames nascosti nel flusso temporale dei video pornografici si dilatassero nel loro divenire per trovare la morte in  nuove immagini, fotografiche, in cui il tempo e lo spazio si fanno astratti.</p> <p> Mi interessava scrivere un poema visuale poetico ed intimistico sulla carne ed il godimento, ma anche sulla solitudine e la fragilità di corpi nudi e assenti, isolati e smaterializzati dai pixel e dalla distanza di un monitor.</p> <p>  </p> <p> “La petite mort”, la piccola morte, è una metafora della lingua francese per definire quel rilascio spirituale, quello stato di oblio di sé  che segue ad un orgasmo; quel breve periodo di malinconia o di "trascendenza" che occorre in seguito all' espulsione della forza vitale (scientificamente spiegato attraverso il rilascio dell'ossitocina durante il momento culminante).
