The project
"Saluti da PINETAMARE" is a photobook dummy that I want to turn in a book edition of 1000 copies. It is completely selfpublished. "Saluti da PINETAMARE" shortlisted to the DUMMY AWARD 2012 at 5th International Photobook Festival in Kassel and was exhibited at Le Bal (Paris), at MIA Fair (Milan), at s.t. galleria (Rome) and at f/stop Photofestival (Leipzig).
These photographs were taken during several trips between 2009 and 2011 along 54 km of National Road No 7 Quater called “Domitiana”, in the towns of Licola, Lago Patria, Ischitella, Villaggio Coppola-Pinetamare, Castel Volturno, Pescopagano, Mondragone and crossing the Mediterranean coast of the provinces of Caserta and Naples, in Italy.
The town of Castel Volturno counts 24000 inhabitants and 1900 are regular immigrants: 4000 people are registered as unemployed. It’s estimated there are over 10000 illegal immigrants. It’s one of the main drug marketplace in the Campania region: cobret, heroin, crack, cocaine and marijuana. Here, and not in Nigeria, was born the Nigerian Mafia.
The province of Caserta, is among Italy’s most polluted. The air, the ground, the rivers and the sea are clearly polluted.
The way kids are growing up, is not the way I did anymore. This project is about my home, about the place of my youth, what has happened to it: I tried to explore the changes in the scenery of my childhood memories by making them collide with reality. The reality of the human direction that is so far from a better future that leaves its heirs more than it has received from its fathers.

ITALIANO
