Karuna Mayi is the name Indian people gave to Naïma Ariel Oettinger and which became her usual name for years now. She was trained as an actor, a singer and a dancer before she became a director and a teacher for theater and cinema, as a peace worker. Being also a social and spiritual activist and a top horse rider, Karuna shared her life between equestrian shows, teaching and artistic expressions in all its forms. But Karuna always had a bigger interest, a preference for the “cinema of the real”. Her theatrical and film projects have mainly led her to defend social activism, humanitarian aid and peace behaviour, focusing mostly on free currencies and religious pluralism focusing mostly on her background makes her an artist "out of the box", a teacher with , creative, unusual, original tools using skills as the equine ethology, theater (theater of the oppressed in Africa and India) and direct cinema. 2009/2010 : Rajagopal a famous Indian social activist, leader of Ekta Parishad, the biggest Gandhian organization known in India today, invited Karuna to come to India and work with him. They have built partnerships around different exchanges : make movies to promote Gandhian movements’ activities and peace, identify a methodology and a pedagogy of non violence to adapt it to a western culture, organize theater workshops to develop free currencies and the pedagogy of non violence in rural areas and slums. To finance her project Karuna worked on a « gift economy », she has built bridges between different organizations to find support and money. Finally she developped her project with seven different organizations all around India : Ekta Parishad, Foundation for human responsability of his holiness the Dalaï Lama, Jana Sanskriti ( the most important theater of the oppressed in the world), Dharma Barhathi Mission, Oraworldmandala, Ekta Peace Force, SAPA ( South Asia Peace Alliance).
