We are a group of 10 master students in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management in a department called CITHEME at the University School of Management (IAE) of Savoie Mont-Blanc, France. We are taking part in the International Tourism Student Conference (ITSC) that will take place in Breda, in the Netherlands from the 21st to the 24th of April 2015.
ITSC (International Tourism Student Conference) started in 1986 and gathers today universities from all over the world. The main aim of ITSC is to stimulate inter‐cultural exchange between students from different universities specialising in tourism and/or hospitality through research projects and sharing of results. The conference takes place in a different country every year, the theme varies as well.
This year's conference theme is: Sustainable Business in Tourism: beyond the obvious solutions. The participating universities are from all over Europe:
Finland: Haaga Heelia University of Applied Sciences - Porvoo
Germany: Heilbronn University - Heilbronn
Greece: Higher Technological Educational Institute - Thessaloniki
Latvia: University of Latvia - Riga
The Netherlands: NHTV Breda University of applied sciences
Spain: Universidad Rey Juan Carlos - Madrid
Sweden: Dalarna University - Börlange
The United-Kingdom: Manchester Metropolitan University
Our role during this event:
To undertake a research paper of about 8.000 words in English on the sustainable and original solutions in the tourism industry in France, with a particular reference to the example of the Chamonix Valley.
To present our work in front of all the other participating universities.
To discuss with our counterparts on the conference theme during the roundtables.
To hold a market stall presenting France and the Rhône-Alpes region thanks to posters, photos and tasting of our local products.
To represent France, its culture, its cuisine, its know-hows and the Rhône-Alpes region in particular through its land and its quality of life.
To highlight the quality of education of the University of Savoie Mont-Blanc, its energy and its involvement within the region, especially regarding sustainable development.
To carry on maintaining privileged relationship with foreign partner universities. The University of Savoie Mont-blanc will host the 2016 ITSC Conference in Chambéry.
To discover the Netherlands and the everyday life of the Dutch students.
To share our experience with other students from all over Europe.
To go through an experience far from the usual university life all together.
To improve our team-working skills thanks to a project we all care about.
Who are we?
We are ten students from different specialisations offered in our master:
Coline, Vincent, Laura-Maï and Gabriel from hospitality management
Lucile, Geoffrey and Mélanie from event management
Léa, Chloé and Laurie from tourism management.
We all have different backgrounds and we all met last September. We are today a united group that makes a real effort to put our experiences and strengths to good use in order to achieve this project.
