BrokenTrack | Season 2

"BrokenTrack TV very inspirational. Highly comforting about what the future of journalism may be about." - a journalist on Twitter

A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE TO FORM YOUR OWN OPINIONS!

BrokenTrack consists in experiencing the adventures of a journalist (radio, photo or written press) during his investigation in a region of the world where news is hot, and to publish a daily video episode on the series website.

Experience his most interesting interviews! Travel with this journalist to meet local populations, leaders and influential people in relation to his investigation… Imagine the journalist overwhelmed with contradictory information: how’s she going to manage and verify the information? Which lines of investigation is she going to discard to concentrate on more promising ones? Follow her discoveries with which help her make progress.

What you will see are the behind-the-scenes work of a journalist. When you will read or hear the produced result via an article or a program, you will understand the work it has required and the professional and human experience of the journalist.

In retrospect, you will be in a position to form your own opinion and to draw your own conclusions. BrokenTrack is not offering you ready-made opinions! Rather, the thinking is left to you to draw your own conclusions, while the journalist may form a different opinion…

A RELEVANT FORMAT TO STICK CLOSE TO THE NEWS

BrokenTrack is a webseries on the immediate geopolitical realities of our planet. Through the eyes of a journalist who travels to the location of a crisis situation, the profession as a whole is dramatized and set in its real-life context. More importantly, international events are reported under a different angle.

It is neither the news, nor an investigation magazine… It is not even a daily account of his journey, but a film work with a true artistic angle. The external point of view is therefore necessary. The journalist will unravel as a classic film character while episodes develop. The dramatic treatment in its proper sense comes as an addition, while never losing the concept of “on-the-wire” documentary.

We have chosen the web as a distribution media for its consistency with the concept of this project, and to make the most of its permanent effervescence. Every episode will be enriched with comments and live information that can be followed on social media (Twitter and Facebook mainly) and relayed via the official BrokenTrack.tv website. Before and after the publication of the daily episode, you will have access to exclusive photos and follow tweets by the team on location.

Beyond the entertainment, we want this series intense, but also mainly concerned with and open to the realities of our world today, in order to shed a serious and relevant light on a topic.

FIRST SEASON

The first season (pilot) takes place in Nigeria. You can already watch the six episodes on http://brokentrack.tv/.

Watch the first episode below:

BrokenTrack has followed a journalist investigating about the massacres happening with terrifying regularity in the North of the country, by the Islamic sect of Boko Haram on populations belonging to different ethnic and faith groups. Deaths are counted by the dozen following each armed action led by this sect, who openly challenges the peace and security of the country.

SECOND SEASON (to be financed)

A second season is currently in preparation with a journalist, who specializes on Middle-East affairs. Unfortunately, for security reasons, we cannot provide more information at this stage.

If you liked the first season, this is the opportunity to support us in this second season!

All BrokenTrack news is on Facebook and Twitter

Allocation of funds

Collected funds will be used to pay:

1) Plane tickets for the journalist and the BrokenTrack team (total of 3 people).

The second season will take place in the Middle-East and each return ticket costs almost 450€ (i.e. £360 or $560), i.e. a total of 1,350€ (i.e. £1,080 or $1,680).

2) Living costs on location (transport, accommodation, food and communications).

We estimate 150€ (£120/$190) for local transport, 140€ (£110/$175) for accommodation, 210€ (£170/$265) for food and 40€ for telecommunications. This covers for 2 people over one week.

3) Technical gear and Marketing.

Although we have made some investments during the first season, there remain some costs related to technical gear (for video and sound) and to operating costs (marketing, webmastering and press relations, etc.).

We estimate 400€ (£320/$500) for renting sound gear and 200€ (£160/$250) for advertising and communication covering the second season, mainly on Facebook.

Notwithstanding certain living costs, we do not envisage remuneration for the reporter who needs to keep their full editorial independence.

We do our best to manage our budget as efficiently as possible. However, unexpected events happen. If contributions are higher than our goal, it will help us cover for such unforeseen costs. In the best of cases, we would like to affect the funds to more communication and to prepare for the next seasons.
