EST-STORY

Presentation of our Sport:

Freestyle skiing is a creative sport where the ski is the limit. In its original form, it can be practiced in a snow park, but is also taken to the “off piste” (called freeride) and on the streets of a city, called urban skiing. The urban side of the sport offers even more freedom and pleasure thanks to the added ‘power of expression’ that is provided to the producer as well as skier.

Filming on the street, in a snow park and even in the middle of a mountain, freestyle skiing allows for limitless and impressive shots.

Project:

Our project is to film a road trip showing all aspects of freestyle skiing, allowing us to play with nature’s contrasts. We would like to startat the charming and suave slopes of the Megève ski station. We will focus the first part of our film to its familiar landscapes, which we take to heart. Actually, for us,Megève represents a small backcountry paradise - [1] that we can not over look.

30 kilometers from Megève is the station of Chamonix, known as the mecca of European freeride. With its impressing steep slopes it is impossible for us not to stop there and offer our viewers amazing freeride footage- [2].

The second part of our film will take place in the heart of Eastern Europe (Poland, Lithuania and Estonia). Our goal is to travel 2500 kilometers to our final destination of Talin, the capital of Estonia. Here, we will dedicate the third part of our film to Urban Skiing. Our idea is not only to focus on ski shots but also on the people we meet along the way. We would like to find villages and cities along the way that will not only provide us with great cinematographic architecture, but also allow us to show their culture.

The shooting of the backcountry freeride is planned to take place between the 15th of December 2013 and the 15th of January 2014 and the urban skiing from the 20th of January 2014 to the 20th of February 2014.

Our objective is to produce a 20 to 30 minute independent short film that will be submitted to every possible film festivals - one of them being IF3.

IF3:

The International Freeski Film Festival (IF3) is a festival solely dedicated to freeski films. It takes place every year in Montreal (Canada), Annecy (France), and Innsbruck (Austria). They showcase the best freeski films of the world, which has earning them the name of the Cannes festival of Skiing.

[1] Backcountry: place where we create jumps or moguls to land on fresh snow.

[2] Freeride: Consists of skiing on un-groomed and unmarked slopes, generally associated with great untouched landscapes and sometimes in the woods.

I will send a private message with the link to my latest film submitted to IF3 for all the people who are interested in participating in this trip.

Where will the money from this collection go? :

It will go to finance gas, tolls, food and accommodation throughoutthis endeavor.

Some of the money will also go to production and post-production. Last year I broke my piggy bank and bought myself a 9k camera: the Sony FS 700. Coming from a Canon 7D, this camera opened doors that were impossible to reach with the 7D. To reach the top I need to evolve to the world of RAW.

To break it down, RAW gives you a higher possibility in terms of the quality of image, colors and skin shades. Something I cannot do at the moment. This is why it is imperative that I buy an external recorder that is compatible with my camera so that I can update my cameras firmware [3].

Also, I will have to buy a new calibration program [4] specifically made for RAW footage.
