Projet éducatif GIMUN ULB

WHO WE ARE: We are a team of 12 ULB students from various faculties (law, communication, political science and economics). Together, we form a student association called the MUN CLUB ULB.

WHAT? The reasons that have motivated us to gather and to unite our forces are our keen interest in international relations, but also the wish to put our knowledge into practice in a United Nations simulation.

This year we have an exceptional opportunity to attend the Geneva International Model United Nations! This is an exercise in which an international organization (the United Nations) is simulated.

However, it is students and not diplomats who represent the member countries of the organization. Yet, these students represent a state as ambassadors to defend and negotiate on behalf of a country assigned to them.

WHAT PURPOSE? Our goal is to have the opportunity to develop our skills to speak in public, to negotiate, to work in a team and to build up a strategy of success.

In our society, we often feel that politics belong to the elite, a world in which we cannot fully participate. Yet, everything is political, from the frequency of our public transport to the opening hours of our favorite shops. Currently, in our globalized world, decisions seem to come from even higher, without leaving any space for us to take part in it.

The aim is give Belgian students the chance to set foot in international diplomacy. Therefore, the MUN CLUB ULB was created. Thanks to this project, twelve students, which were chosen based on the principle of equality of opportunity, will have the chance to put themselves in the shoes of diplomats, by participating in an international simulation of the United Nations which brings together students from all over the world.

This year, in order to increase our commitment to the principle of non-exclusion, we will participate in a bilingual conference, so students who do not feel comfortable with English, the language in which most simulations are held, participate at equal opportunity.

OUR EDUCATION PROJECT? Over the years, the students of MUN Club ULB, conscious of how lucky they are to participate in MUNs (and in general!), decided to put in place a second project to complete our participation at GIMUN 2017.

This year we offer an education project in collaboration with schools in Belgium, mostly in the Brussels-Capital Region and Wallonia. This project aims to share our experience with students in their final high school years by offering two to four hours of training including a presentation in English or French. We will send two to three delegates to each school where they will have the opportunity to share their knowledge with the students.

TO KEEP IT SHORT: The MUN Club ULB is therefore an association defined by the principles of neutrality (apolitical, independent and secular), democracy (representation and debate) and equality of opportunity (tolerance and diversity). But it also creates opportunities by launching its brand new education project about international citizenship.

However, the opportunity is also on your side! By supporting us, you take part in an international project to fight against the barriers of the political world by helping to democratize politics of tomorrow!

Go to our website: http://www.munclubulb.org/en/

Or our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MUNClubULB/?fref=ts

Allocation of funds

This is what each student of our delegation has to pay in order to participate in the simulation at Geneva. The total budget per person is over 900 Euros.

Our approach to MUN is non-discriminatory, not only concerning the language delegates are allowed to use in committee, but also their socio-economic situation. We believe that the MUN experience should be accesible for all students no matter what their financial situation looks like. This clearly distinguishes us from many other MUN teams which require a registration fee to apply for the team. Although our goal to finance this project is ambitious, the experiences we can get from our participation will be crucial for our education program with school children in Belgium.

The contributions will cover 4 main types of expenses:

1. Firstly, the costs of participating in the simulation itself (Geneva International Model United Nations, 49% of the estimated costs). In particular, the cost of traveling to Geneva from Brussels (1680 Euros, representing 15% of the estimated costs), and the registration fees to take part in the conference (180 Euros / delegate, 2200 Euros in total, 19% of the estimated costs) and for other supplies during the conference (food, material..)

2. Furthermore, the costs related to the international citizenship education courses carried out in our partner schools in Belgium (300 Euros, 3% of the planned costs).

3. Thirdly, the costs for our fundraising: travel to sponsors, flyers, bake sales and other happenings at the ulb for Valentine's Day (photos of the events will be available on our Facebook page) , (500 Euros, representing 4% of the planned costs).

4. Finally, the costs of accomodation in Geneva which is quite an expensive city for a trip of 8 days (40% of the planned costs).

Moreover, 8% of the funds obtained through our crowdfunding will cover the costs of organizing it (5% to kisskissbankbank, 3% for Banking charges.

Furthermore, we offer the following packages to possible sponsors in order to reach our goals:

Support A Starting from 500€ Increase your visibility: publication of your logo on our homepage and our profiles in social networks (Facebook reach: 2000 people on average), publication of an advertisement of your company / institution on our blog.

Support B Starting from 1000€ Increase your visibility: publication of your logo on our homepage and our profiles in social networks (Facebook reach: 2000 people on average), publication of an advertisement of your company / institution on our blog (plus sharing on Facebook), possibility to present your company/institution at numerous upcoming events at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (24,000 students) and several schools in Brussels and Wallonia in the form of flyers, posters, etc.

Support C Starting from 3000€ Increase your visibility: publication of your logo on our homepage and our profiles in social networks (Facebook reach: 2000 people on average), publication of an advertisement of your company / institution on our blog (plus sharing on Facebook), possibility to present your company/institution at numerous upcoming events at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (24,000 students) and several schools in Brussels and Wallonia in the form of flyers, posters, etc. Distribution of information about your company/institution at conferences with 1,000 to 3,000 participating students with high potential from universities worldwide (international)

starting from a significant amount: possibility of recruitment: we will organise a recruitment event to facilitate your access to students with high potential (bilingual students, international orientation, high involvement, studying law/management/communication/social sciences, practical skills...)
