“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Freedom of information is the foundation of any democracy. Yet, nearly half the world's population still lacks access to free information. Reporters Without Borders is fighting to support journalists in danger and ensure the freedom of information. Founded in France in 1985, the association is recognized as a charity since 1995. RSF has consultative status with the United Nations and UNESCO. Christophe Deloire has been the Secretary-General since August 2012.
