But now it's almost finished!   Colourgrading, experimenting with the editing and other stuff ... Lots of files have travelled from Bali to Belgium and back. Over the internet and even via the REAL mail. I sent a hard drive all the way to Oelegem (Antwerpen, Belgium) with all my footage. I called him Hendrik the Hard Drive. I don't trust anything that doesn't have a name.   I'm sorry that it is taking such a long time. But it's my baby and I want it to be the way I want it to be.   I just want you to know that you didn't support something that doesn't exist. ... went great!!   I feel like we had the best day we could possibly have during the raining season. The colours and light were amazing. We had a great team, and I'm looking forward to see and share some stills with you.   Let's hope tomorrow  (the second and last day) will be just as nice! My new favourite google search term is "detailed weather forecast ubud". I just don't want to believe it says 'rain and thunderstorms'.   Thanks again for your support. Sunrise and sunset are amazing here. It looks like this path goes everywhere and nowhere at the same time. On the day of the shooting we will have to get up super early. Not only because we want to film at sunrise, but also because we will have to bring some offerings to the Gods first. There will be a small Hindu ceremony; To ask for their blessings to use the location and to make sure everything will turn out fine. I think. First the end of the world was near. Now the end of the year is near. And what's worse: The end of my Kiss Kiss Bank Bank project is near! Only 6 more days to go!   Everybody is always so surprised at how fast time goes. Indeed, it's unbelievable. And what happened to everybody's old 'New Year's resolutions'? My mind goes completely blank when I try to think of my own. All I know is that I wanted to have a happier, healthier and brighter heart: fail! I wanted to move to Bali: score! I wanted to make music: check!   "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did." That phrase is all over the internet. I hate it. Because it's true. And I'm scared ... of nearly everything. I'm scared that I will fail, that people won't like my music, that things won't turn out the way I want them to. I was scared to start this Kiss Kiss Bank Bank thing, because it means that you have to show confidence in what you do. And it would be a total failure if you didn't succeed in something you actually believe in. O help..   There is this guy that blogged about the well known sentence "Do one thing every day that scares you". He did that for one year, every day. Because he was a coward, like me.  <a href="http://scareyourselfeveryday.com/" target="_blank">Check out his blog.</a> Did he inspire me? Yes he did. Am I preparing myself to start the year with good resolutions regarding my coward behaviour? Yes I am. I decided to take it slowly but to be persistent. I really, really want to make this music video and make it a success. I want to launch my mini album. I want to be kinder to people. But the mask helped me to hang on to my happiness the rest of the day. As you could read in the last newsfeed: I ordered the mask, and asked the craftsman to adjust it to my taste. Our mask is less glossy, more natural than the traditional mask that is used for the Telek dance. We could pick it up today in Batuan. A small village (a 20 minute drive from Ubud) that is known for its handicrafts. They made it look just the way I wanted it to look. No, actually I didn't want them to paint the teeth all white. But I'm glad they did it anyway. With the mask on my lap, carefully wrapped in newspaper and a black plastic bag, I couldn't help smiling the entire trip back home, while discussing the end of the world with my dear driver Budi. A Sunday afternoon, 4 PM. I arrive at the <a href="http://www.yayasanwidyaguna.org/" target="_blank">Yayasan Widya Guna.</a> "This is a home and learning center for unprivileged children in Bedulu. A place where Balinese children can receive a good     start in life. Orphans, the disabled and other children needing a helping hand are given the opportunity to obtain a good education, and become independent and responsible for their own future. As well as providing education, housing and regular food, a support net is also there for the children that require it."   A few years ago I was teaching the children drama. 3 Days a week, for one month. At the end of the month they performed the play 'Snow White' in English. I have many sweet memories of that place. I saw they were also taught how to play the gamelan and dance the traditional Balinese dances. And what a great job they did! That's why I immediately thought of the Yayasan Widya Guna, while writing the script. I was so happy when I found Putri and Mayumi. During the meeting almost a week ago, Mayumi showed us what she had in mind for the choreography. As I already wrote in the first Newsfeed: it already looked very promising!   Last Sunday Mayumi would show Putri the dance, and start teaching her the choreography at the Yayasan. When I arrived there, Putri was already wearing her sarung, with her green blouse tucked into it. Everything was held together by a light pinkish elastic corset belt. I don't think she knew how stylish she actually looked. I'd steal that look anytime! Mayumi first explained the storyline to Putri, while showing her some moves. I thought it was supercute to see how concentrated she was listening, and already trying to copy some of the moves.   <div class="embed"> <iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="304" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nx6Nhbp__60?wmode=opaque&fs=1&feature=oembed" width="540"></iframe></div> I'm very happy that I can share some pieces of this first rehearsal with you. As you can see: they found a great place for the Yayasan. You can hear children playing and ducks quacking away in the background.I can't help but say "awwwwww....cute..." every time I watch this rehearsal footage.   Love, Usi ES

Dear All, One week has passed...Time to tease you with yet another teaser. I surely hope you enjoyed Big Boys as much as I did. Unfortunately I'm talking about the song. This week I'd like to share a little piece of my song 'Christian' with you. <div class="embed"> <iframe align="middle" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="1" height="304" scrolling="yes" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/p1mBOJRdNj4?wmode=opaque&fs=1&feature=oembed" width="540"></iframe></div>   It's actually one of my  oldest songs. But when I came to Bali, I blessed it with another arrangement. I just bought a new keyboard and was finally able to make it sound the way I always heard it in my head.     ABOUT THE VIDEO   Coco Chanel once said: “When accessorizing, always take off the last thing you put on.” This is definitely not what the Balinese people were thinking when putting together a dance costume. It's loaded with bracelets, necklaces, head pieces, shoulder pieces,  different kinds of patterns, ... They mix the strangest colours too. But somehow...they always seem to get away with it, and look gorgeous. We have also been experimenting a bit. Combine everything you love, and see what happens! (Last time I said this to myself, I was standing in the kitchen. It was the last time I cooked dinner for myself. Ever.) In our case 'everything you love' means: black stuff, leather things and everything that's gold and shiny! You can choose the original mask we will use in the video. (Of course, there will only be 1!) Today I went to a local Mask Maker Man in Batuan. He will make the mask from scratch. No, actually it's based on a traditional mask they use for a certain dance. But it will be adjusted to our specific wishes.
