Jean-Charles Englebert Massaux (JC as he liked to be called) was born July 26, 1977 in Brussels, Belgium. He started learning to play guitar when he was five years old, studying under his father, Armand Massaux. Taking an interest in blues and instrumental rock while at high school, his playing style was influenced by B.B king, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Larry Carlton, Gary Moore, Robben Ford, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather, Eddie VanHalen John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen. In his early twenties Massaux discovered Jazz and enrolled a Jazz music school located in Antwerp, Belgium. JC started listening jazz tunes from: Charlie Parker, Bill Evans, Miles Davis John Coltrane, Joe Pass. A year after, JC Massaux attended Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) and graduated (Summa Cum Laude) in 2002 with a Performance major. The same year, JC Massaux had the great opportunity to be James Brown Band’s sub guitarist in cities such as: Chicago, New York City. Summer 2003, he was offered a teaching position at Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) and became part-time faculty for a period of four years. While he was teaching advanced technique concepts and metal ensembles, Massaux met and played with some amazing artists: Robben Ford, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Sting among others... From 2004 to 2009 JC participated in various projects, commercial recordings (Adidas, Proximus), live performances for singer and bass player, Straz (winner of the 2004 “Sacré Belges” live performance contest). He also was a featured artist and columnist on several guitar related web sites like chopsfromhell & jazzfrets. In 2011, Massaux became lead guitarist for the belgian latino-pop band, Buenas Ondas, with which he performed more than 150 concerts in three years. (Couleur Café, Botanique, Francofolies) In 2013, a top secret instrumental rock project, Iridium, came upon and is still on progress... JC Massaux recently became lead guitarist for the belgian guitarist, singer and composer, XR. The pop rock/metal album “XR” will be released at the end of 2014. JC Massaux is currently endorses Vigier (guitar) & mesa Boogie ( Amplification)
