We’ve been working on this project for 4 years now. First it started through reading shows then we decided to give it a major theatrical form.
The project involves the adaptation of the novel by Fabienne Kanor, HUMUS.
We are fortunate to receive her support and confidence. This novel is based on real facts: On March 23rd 1774, 14 captive women jumped overboard the slave ship called “ the sun” and tried to get back to the shore, shouting “death rather than slavery”.
Here is their story.
We have managed to do 2 creative residencies to perform a first theatrical approach work. This has encouraged us to create the final grand residence to be held at Fonds St Jacques in Martinique next September.
This creative project is accompanied by several cultural mediations with schools and young people about to integrate the world of work around the expression of memory linked to slavery.
The focus on the study of Resistance in slavery is a central point because it has mobilized our team for several years and has led us to meet and talk with various people who work themselves to transmit this memory.
It is because we have understanding and committed partners that we make this invitation to subscribe.
