Présentation détaillée du projet

Born in Portugal but based in Belgium, Helder Seabra has studied and worked with the three big dance names in Flanders: Anne Theresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. For the last few years, he developed his own movement language and set up his own company: HelKa vzw.

Following the huge success of 'When The Birds Fly Low The Wind Will Blow', he will now create a piece on 5 men, with live music:

In Absentia has one key word: Loss

The feeling of loss, the seeing of loss, the carrying of loss... by 5 men. Crying, laughing, feeling, it is all allowed. Even by these men. The loss of a loved one, the loss of your speech, the loss of a great book, the loss of a project due to the lack of funding.

Loss

Five men explore and experience the emotional, mental and physical impact of loss. Men react differently than women do. They don't talk about it as much, they don't cry - definitely not in public. Do men seek a physical form of expression?

In Absentia will be a hugely physical dance and music performance; intertwining emotion with expression.

The production will premiere in de Warande, Turnhout on the 15 October.  Other performances of In Absentia: 18 October 2015: cc Gasthuis, Aarschot

9 December 2015: Cultuurcentrum, Berchem

12 December 2015: cc De Spil, Roeselare

À quoi servira la collecte ?

In July 2015, Minister of Culture Mr Gatz decided to not fund 79 projects, even though they received positive advice from the expert committee. Our project was one of them! After much time spent brainstorming on what to do next, we decided to set up 'In Absentia' and a crowdfunding campaign.

We started the creation at the beginning of September and all the involved artists know that there's not enough money to pay them the usual rates. This is really against our principles but we would love to pay everybody the way they should be paid (guidelines of the CAO of the performing arts).

Please help us with this... why?

Because we believe everybody should be paid for the work they deliver.

Because we believe in our project and the talent of our artists.

Because we want our work to be seen by the audience.

We need your help! Every little bit helps us.
