Ana is sleeping with Hugo, Dalhia with Graciano, Leo with Louis, and Arthur with everyone else. They are in love, they are friends, and they share their everyday lives of 30-something in Brussels.
Until Hugo suddenly passes away.
Everything is turned upside down for the group. Constant questioning, deep desires and the urge to live fully, at all costs, emerge as they party, work, struggle and love.
This is only the beginning of big changes…
STATEMENT OF INTENT
« Tell me how you fuck and I’ll tell you who you are ».
Even lovers get the Blues talks about romantic and sexual relationships. It assumes the way people love and make love reflect their existential questions, hopes and neurosis.
It is through their sexual experiences and love life that they will find answers for these questions and reach a form of freedom.
As if everything was decided naked in bed. As if sexuality was what makes the world go around.
It is also a matter of age group. Why is their love life so difficult for thirty-year-olds ?
We are currently witnessing the comeback of censorship, prudishness, an unapologetic hate. Protests against same-sex weddings, abortion ban, gender question, etc. How can we fight against it?
Why is sex such a taboo ? Why does it make people discontent or unhappy? How does today’s world influence our behaviours, the way we love and make love?
I want to showcase this contemporary topic.
I want my writing style to display very lively conversations, leaving some space for improvisation. Music has a very special role: song monologues, concert scenes or music videos. I want the colours of the sets, make up and costumes to be bright and saturated.
The movie alternates between a city atmosphere (flats, roads, night clubs, …) and a rustic feel (lake, forest,…) and takes place in the course of two seasons: winter and summer.
My formal search for freedom reflects the protagonists’ search for freedom in my story. I am interested in frictions: a documentary feel, hand held shooting and much staged scenes.
A modern, lively, fighting while light and funny movie. A pop movie.
I wrote this movie for 6 actors: their intimacy as starting point, a fiction as purpose. I partly single handedly wrote and party used a collective research method through improvisations with my actors. Several “labs” took place and were filmed (see video above). After two years of preparation, we are ready to shoot “Even lovers get the Blues”

This movie is self-financed. The minimum picture equipment (Black Magic camera) and sound equipment are generously lent. Post production is guaranteed and the whole team is working pro bono.
We need this money for :
- Lighting desks and sound controls (1500 EUR)
- Catering (1000 EUR)
- Insurances (750 EUR)
- Consumer goods (750 EUR)
- Filming licenses (500 EUR)
- Administrative expenses (1000 EUR)
We also need to think about the unexpected when shooting a movie. The fund-raising will mainly be used to manage the pre-production and the shooting, and for the most expensive post-production item: mixing (2000 EUR)
This is our minimum target. Obviously, the more money, the better!
If we gather 10,000 EUR, we could rent additional equipment that would improve shooting conditions, such as lights, machinery, wireless tie clip microphone, etc.
12,500 EUR would enable us to rent a studio to record the music and to look into promoting the movie (e.g. posters).
Can we count on you ?
