NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR - DIRECTOR
THE OTHER is born after a meeting with a young man, who lived an atrocious story, which was also touching and aroused in me the need to develop a scenario around it that would be strong and sensitive at the same time. In order to respect the personal history of this person, I inspired myself with snippets of his experiences while grafting to a new world, making fictitious characters and places.
I chose to show a teenager, not in his everyday's life but in what is more singular in his existence : his sexuality, his relationship with his parents, the influence of his best friend Alice and especially his relationship of trust with Marc, Alice's father.
In addition, i imagined this teen as a prostitute, hiding this situation to all exept from Marc.
In my mind, it was thus in a situation of confinement that he should seek out.
I named this teenager Victor. I discovered in Victor a young man of uncommon strength and made sure that this force increased gradually as the events of the film.
From the beginning on, I projected myself as the director of this film. Victor's life is hard. He doesn't open easily. I wanted to highlight this hardness. But alongside, the English composer Jimmy Lee, rising figure in the international rock scene and member of the Trailer Trash Tracys, will bring the viewer an echo of Victor's thoughts and will allow him to feel closer to the character to experience his emotions. Victor is both the hero and the focal character. My direction will respect this construction. I will follow Victor whatever he does, putting technology at the service of this construction, by the use of mobile cameras, tracking shots...
I intend to treat this film objectively, including hallucinations and nightmares scenes.
I will work for the first time with Payam Azadi, an Iranian director of photography, which will bring experience, passion for the picture and open-mindedness. With him, I will create a dark film, mainly nocturnal, where i'll use a high‐definition digital camera to obtain the best atmosphere possible, to film almost without light, seeking an outcome very crude.
I will direct my actors very close, face to face. Being the author of this film myself, can force me to change my vision of the characters sometimes, but overall I will opt for a strong and accurate direction. My casting is almost complete, with actors that, as I know, can meet my requirements, and even anticipate them.
Today, a majority of people of my generation is in doubt. They feel sacrificed.
I would like, through this film, to bring a message of hope, to them as well as to future generations.
