Born in 2008 in New York but raised in France, Double Elvis writes a new page of European rock/New Wave history. The first thing that strikes you is the sound . Huge, modern but yet familiar, Led by Jean-Christophe Boccou and Gwenn Mercier-Zuliani, this sonic duet brings the audience a ruffling universe where guitars mix with machines and industrial percussions.
Following a mediatic stir on the internet, the band was quickly spotted by many international medias and broadcast, including B.B.C2.
After a first tour in Germany and some great opening acts (New Model Army, No one is innocent), the band has now finished the recordings of their first album in Chicago featuring Matt Walker on drums (Morrissey/Smashing Pumpkins/Garbage) and mixed by young virtuoso Sean O'Keefe (Fall out Boy/Von Bondies).
'La voix, purement inscrite dans la tradition new wave des eighties, servira en même temps de repère et de trait d’union pour un public dont le nombre devrait très rapidement grandir si l’on tient compte de la qualité de ce que Double Elvis est en mesure de lui offrir … Un des grands groupes de demain !" 'I am reminded of New Order, The Cure as well as some early Shoe-Gaze bands like the Chameleons. At the same time they are fresh and original, with a rich, lush sound and an assertive vocal style that is at times reminiscent of Billy Corgan, at others of David Bowie and, in more subtle moments, of Chris Martin of Coldplay. Standout songs include “Sea of Ashes,” “The Art of War” and “Perdido Street” - a rich, dreamy ballad that is my absolute favorite.' Left Unsigned webzine (U.S)
“Originaires de Bretagne, les Double Elvis offrent une belle carte de visite, annonciatrice de belles promesses, avec cette démo 5 titres. Double Elvis sait écrire des morceaux captivants, ce dont il apporte la preuve dès le "Virginia tech" introductif, à la fois lourd et entraînant et doté de samples de voix judicieux. Sur "Empire down", ces mêmes claviers tissent un climat obscur et prenant, ensuite appuyé par des percussions bien distillés et cette voix rêveuse, presque angélique.” Tatapoum Webzine (FR)
'This E.P is a amazingly mature debut release from a band yet unknown in our realms, but they've got all it takes to attract international audiences with their catchy and elaborate sound.' Reflections of Darkness magazine (All)
'A style based on consciousness lyrics ('and videos as well'¦have a look to the clip they made for A Sea Of Ashes, dealing with the shameful and delicate matter of soldier children), walls of blasting guitars, vigorous drumming, refined by some melancholic synth slices in the sweet full-blooded Vampyre Song and some caressing rhythmical stepping in A Sea Of Ashes colliding with a punkish soul coming out here and there. ' Chain DLK magazine (It)
