Act for Syrians

For nearly 11 years, after protests that were suppressed by the national army, Syria has been in the throes of a civil war. Amidst the chaos of the Arab Spring, students and precarious citizens in many Middle Eastern countries are demanding more democracy. In Syria, the only response to the protests has been the violence of Bashar al-Assad's government's guns. Life in Syria is deteriorating as the conflict is compounded by the arrival of Daech on Syrian territory. At the moment, nearly 1.5 million Syrian refugees are in Lebanon (a neighbouring country), which represents a quarter of the total population of that country. The living conditions in the refugee camps are inhumane and do not meet the needs of survival and human dignity required. We, Espomena and Espolidarité, are two associations of the ESPOL school of political sciences based in Lille. Espolidarité is the solidarity association of our school. We regularly organize street marauding in the streets of Lille as well as other actions in order to help people in need. Espomena is an association whose aim is to promote the history and culture of the Turkish, Arab and Persian worlds. Last year, we carried out a project for Yemen by collecting money for an association on the spot while organizing conferences and writing articles to make this country better known. This year, we decided to carry out an action on our scale by organizing a series of events and a fundraising campaign to help an association on the spot: Mission enfance. The goal of the project is to raise awareness of the forgotten Syrian refugees' cause. As student associations, the funds will be donated to the social center of Deir Al Ahmar in order to strengthen the education of Syrian refugee children and Lebanese. As a carrier of emergency aid to Syrian refugees, the association Mission Enfance carries out its action in centers that have become a central place in the organization of the city and the neighborhood. The center of Deir Al Ahmar welcomes young people, every day of the week, in order to allow them to improve their school level and to take extra time, with dedicated teachers, for support in specific subjects. We are looking to raise the sum of 1000 euros over a period of 35 days to help this association as much as possible. All the money collected will be sent to Mission Enfance. In order to make as many people as possible aware of this cause, we are also organizing a series of conferences (broadcasted on our social networks), events and actions during the month of March.
