CAILLEBOTTE'S NEW ALBUM #2

Among the Caillebotte brothers, you have the very famous impressionist painter Gustave, the priest Alfred and the composer Martial, who remained behind the scenes. The rich and complex writing style of Martial Caillebotte's work is now being revealed thanks to the huge work of the Paris Region Vittoria Choir and its musical conductor, Michel Piquemal.

The whole story started in 2013 with the historical release of the Messe solennelle de Pâques by Martial Caillebotte, launched as a world premier. The CD has since been awarded “4 ffff of Télérama” and “4 Diapasons”, and acclaimed by the musical press.

The Paris Region Vittoria Choir and its conductor, accompanied again by the Orchestra Pasdeloup, are adventuring together the second episode of the "Caillebotte Cycle". They have recorded last May three unknown pieces : Une Journée ("A Day" a symphonic poem based on the poems of the French author Edouard Blau), Psalm 132 – Ecce quam bonum and the Dies Irae (works composed for solists, choir and orchestra).

These scores have been played only once during the lifetime of the composer, before going to sleep for more than a century in the trunks of the family. Until the day the Paris Region Vittoria Choir decided to wake this music up, with the help of the French baritone Benoit Riou and the consent of the Caillebotte descendants, in particular Patrick Chardeau. This discovery is major for the French musical heritage. What could be more moving than to wake up sleeping music?

Great names of the current French lyric scene take part in the adventure: Karine Deshayes, Clémentine Margaine and Philippe Do.

Since its creation in 1987, the Paris Region Vittoria Choir covers numerous repertoires, with a predilection toward the French music from the 19th and 20th centuries, and the rediscovery of often-forgotten French composers such as Joseph-Guy Ropartz, Jean Cras, Lili Boulanger or Martial Caillebotte.

This new CD is reinforcing the Choir position as a major player in the rediscovery of the musical heritage.

"Best lyrical artist of the year" at the Classical Music Award 2011, Karine Deshayes is singing at the Opéra Bastille in Bellini’s opera I Capuleti et I Montechi. Last performances included Poppea in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea at the Palais Garnier and Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Chorégies d'Orange last June and July.

"Best lyrical newcomer artist of the year" at the Classical Music Award 2011, Clémentine Margaine performed Marguerite in Berlioz’s Damnation de Faust and Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen at the Berlin Deutsche Oper. Last performances included again Carmen at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome last June.

Highly appreciated for the “beauty of his lyric tenor tone, his sophisticated halftones and the clarity of his voice” (Alan Blytth in Opera), Philippe Do embodied Golo in Schumann’s Genoveva and Lord Percy in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena at the Ostrava National Theatre (Czech Republic). He performed Don José in Bizet’s Carmen at the Vladivostok Opera (Russia) and at the Sigulda Festival Opera (Latvia) last August.

The Orchestra Pasdeloup

Created in 1861, the Orchestra Pasdeloup is the oldest French orchestra playing, named after his creator Jules Pasdeloup.
