Four Boys A Long Way From Home: The Road Movie

It is a collaborative musical road movie. We want to follow in the footsteps of Alan Lomax. Unknown to the general public, we owe him the discovery of worldwide hits such as: The house of the rising sun by Bob Dylan and Trouble so Hard, sampled by Moby.

This road movie follows the band Moonsters: A young Parisian psychedelic rock band who set out to conquer the United States, but also follow their dreams. They have the crazy dream of walking in the footsteps of Alan Lomax, their pianist Nicolas is one of his admirers, and live a human adventure that will make them grow humanly and artistically exploring Route 66, a mythical symbol of absolute freedom .

They will discover this country, its people, different musical influences but mostly, they rediscover themselves.   This movie is set out as a road movie on a "U.S tour bus." will follow the adventures of the band. Their journey begins in Chicago and ends in San Francisco.   During their journey, they will discover new artists and musical genres. This group is heavily influenced by American music. They will test their skills in a new environment and reinvent their music along the way.

This project is about:

1 Honoring the past celebrating the centenary of the birth of Alan Lomax in 2015.

2 Living the present with a road trip on Route 66, musical compositions, meeting with locasl, jam sessions .. 3 And setting foot into the future through Digital art

The Program this summer: Jam Sessions with local artists, a concert in mythical prison Parchman Farm, encounters with iconic figures such as blues legend Muddy Water's son.   You can follow the adventure with us.

From that moment on, we will make a parallel between our band and the beatnik generation while we follow a route inspired by Jack Kerouac, culminating in Big Sur (part of California that inspired a novel by Jack Kerouac) and that we discuss in Chapter 3.    We will ensure continuity with Chapter 1 on Alan Lomax because he also represents the intellectual milieu of the 50s and 60s.    This chapter is a human adventure. It is also an introspective moment where we talk about the band, discover their creations, their hopes and goals for the future:    * Everyday Life on the bus  * Friendships  * Music Creation  * Discussions  * Landscapes  * Meetings with local

Around the realization of the band's next video clip, we will compile all the experiences gained during the trip.    This passage is the perfect bridge between Chapter 2, where we discover the band's aspirations and the arrival in Big Sur, where will pay tribute to Jack Kerouac, the main inspiration of Chapter 2.   This clip will be directed by David Charpentier, on visuals created by Unicorn and will be edited by Ariana Natale.

1 year ago, we had a wild dream! To make a collaborative musical road movie with the human aspect at its core. At the same time, Fouzy created l'Avant-Garde with Julia which is a social innovation and cultural solidarity movement created by young people. The organization promotes young emerging artists.

One of the events organized by l'Avant-Garde

A part of the team of project "FOUR BOYS A LONG WAY FROM HOME" & a couple of members of AG

It therefore seemed obvious we needed to link the two and that Avant-Garde would carry the project.  Behind this crazy project, there are twenty members who assisted us during the past 6 months of intensive work.  So, make a collaborative musical road movie? YES!  With the human aspect at its core? YES!    But we needed a subject and a leading group representing the values of Avant-Garde to embody it.   Passionate about music, we were interested in an important figure very little known by the general public, who embodies all of these values: ALAN LOMAX.

Alan Lomax (1915 - 2002) is a very famous ethnomusicologist, folklorist, musicologist and collector of American music, probably the most famous in the public of non-specialists. He mostly collected music of the United States and the Caribbean, and European nations that have influenced this music, but he worked in the world. He also had a career as a performer and producer, for Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter) and Woody Guthrie.

He probably had the longest and most important music collector career, both in quantity and quality, as he did his first recordings in 1933 with his father, and his last in 1985, representing 52 years of work.

We want to use Alan Lomax and the incredible heritage he left behind to highlight emerging artists who represent the continuity of his work. This is why we chose the psychedelic rock band widely permeated by the blues musical culture of the United States: Moonsters.

                                                         Alphonse, Nicolas, Arthur et Paul

"The best collaborations are based on admiration. "Paul Auster

This sentence defines the good and creative dynamic that unites the band Moonsters. Paul, the drummer, used this sentence to express his commitment to the group.

Arthur Jacquin (guitar / vocals), Alphonse Emery (bass), Paul Thomas (drums) and Nicolas Worms (pianist) are members of the band Moonsters, formed in 2009. They are aged from 21 to 22 years.

Moonsters is firstly Arthur Jacquin (vocals and guitar) who composes and arranges his pieces alone. Then, very quickly he met Nicolas Worms (keyboard), in high school. He then meets Alphonse Emry an impromptu encounter on a sidewalk and invites him to join the band as a bassist which then allowed him to include Paul, Alphonse's  friend and talented drummer.   Moonsters takes a different musical color, each of them bringing their own personal touch and influences.

They played in a variety of places (Cabaret Sauvage, Scene Bastille, Truskel, The International, OPA Bastille, Le Klub, La Dame de Canton, Le Bus Palladium, Le Point Ephemere etc ...) and three times at Centre Barbara (Paris).

                                                                    © Teddy Attia for Moonsters

They start year 2011 with the release of their debut EP recorded at Studios Ramses followed in 2012 with their first live video recording. 2013 was also their first opportunity to perform outside of Paris at the "On n'est pas bien là?" festival.

In 2013, the group acquired its own rehearsal studio to work on their next album. In July they recorded at Studio Microbe 10 tracks that make up their new album, scheduled for late 2014.

Nicolas continues his studies at the National Conservatory and specializes in classical music. His talent is such that quickly he composes for orchestras playing in places like the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

Paul, drummer extraordinaire and self-taught, will pursue audiovisual engineering studies, which he completed in 2012. He is now working on film shoots, as chief operator.

Alphonse is a film student and Arthur an actor. He will star in the next movie by Christophe Honoré, a mural incorporating "Ovid's Metamorphoses" where he plays the role of Narcissus.   We find in their music influences Nicolas's classical influence, the blues and rock influences of Alphonse and Arthur and the visual influence of Paul.

Olivier Lefebvre, former artistic director for majors such as Columbia and Universal, says of them "their music is futuristic. I heard Led Zeppelin, the Doors and Rage Against the Machine. And as they are real musicians, this does not sound like plagiarism. "

                                                              Examples of Scan Kinect

Unicorn will be with us on this adventure and bring the futuristic aspect to the road movie.

Scan Kinect As soon as possible (electricity, space of about 4m x 4m), set up the Kinect system + a computer and perform 3D scans of each person encountered on site. A key encounter, a place, an idea. Creating a digital memory, a 3D digitization of that person, we could find thereafter in the documentary, or through an experience on the internet. Rediscovering the entire gallery of people we met on this trip.  Idea of a logbook, creating 3D motion viral, which would tell the story of that person in his world, what he said, etc...

Projection Create movies adapted to the place and atmosphere where the band plays. Come and tell a story, set the ambience of the road trip, the cities visited, symbols and ideas they convey. Translate the will of the group and its journey visually, so images come to involve the public in the journey, into a coherent visual and sound experience. As the travel, the bank of images and film gets constituted, memories will be constituted...

This project is conducted by the association l'Avant-Garde and directed by David Charpentier. We built a lot of projects together and this symbiosis between us will show on screen. A word from Fouzy & Lilya: (Co-authors and Project Leaders of FOUR BOYS A LONG WAY FROM HOME)

Completing this project seemed to be a no brainer for us. For the past year we have been working as volunteers on this project that we developed together. We saw this baby at its embryonic stage and we hope to bring it birth with your help, because without you, we know that despite the substantial resources deployed for months, this project will not happen ..

This project was basically a wild dream and through hard work and determination we were able to shape it, to give it an identity and we are proud to present it to you through KissKissBankBank.   What a journey, so many obstacles already overcome, you do not even suspect the existence of. We heard "this project will never happen", "You can not do it ..", "You are crazy girls, you've seen the economic situation ..?" and many others.

But we were also lucky to hear many messages of encouragement and and even more incredible luck to be surrounded by wonderful and generous people who have donated their time without counting knowing they will not come with us on this journey if we reach our goal. People who in our moments of doubts boosted us and reaffirmed that we had to be crazy and believe in your dreams.

So we're crazy, we believe in our dreams and we sincerely hope you will believe in us!  Help us thank all these people by allowing us to bring FOUR BOYS LONG WAY FROM HOME to life.

We have not yet reached the end of the road but we can not continue walking on this journey without taking the time to thank the amazing and talented people who participated in this project in the shadows and that allowed it to exist:

Waar dient de collecte voor

It is very important to be transparent, so before anything else we must specify that the money collected will be used ONLY for the realization of the project, ie: NO ONE IS BEING PAID TO DO THIS PROJECT.

We managed to surround ourselves with a team of professionals team who are committed, willing to work as volunteers because they are probably as crazy as we are and dare to dream.

We lack one thing: MONEY TO MAKE THIS DREAM A REALITY and that is why we NEED YOU, because without you we can not do it.
