Islande - Route Photographique
Iceland - Tourism, environnement and photography. Road one, one month.
Islande - Route Photographique
Iceland is a country of contrasts, with glaciers, volcanoes, deep fjords, abyssal cliffs, mineral deserts and amazing waterfalls, not forgetting the aurora borealis and starry skies. It’s paradise for photographers, while also being increasingly frequented by tourists. There is an average increase of 25% every year to the local economy, but at the expense of the environment. I chose to go to Iceland in Autumn, a time when nature is in bloom and colour, and under aurora borealis. It’s also a time when tourism is less common, and I plan to take advantage of that to meet locals and see things from their point of view. I will hitchhike, because I believe in this mode of transport: it allows to be close to people and get to know them, and I did not want to put yet another 4x4 on Icelandic roads. My departure is planned for September 29th, 2015, and I will stay there one month, on a photographic journey all around the country.
Above all, Iceland symbolises the earth, and it's not by chance that Jules Verne describes the path towards the depths of our globe in his novel "Journey to the Centre of the Earth ". I have therefore decided to explore these famous depths and to discover people and places via the famous circular route - the No.1 Road. My route will be rather precise, but I will allow myself to be influenced by events and magical moments. Let's not forget that "Nothing is more appropriate for a journey than to probe all the wonderful aspects of the unforeseen".
Every place and meeting will be immortalized in 4 images and text. The first one will be a portrait of the person, the second one his housing , the third one his environment, and the last one a landscape of my choice. Texts will be their records : what do they think
about the impact of the tourism on the environment? What are their traditions, their cultures, their lands? Their openings in the rest of the world? By gathering of these quadriptyques in an exhibition, I hope to show that humans could have a strong relation with the nature while respecting it. I would like the visitors wondering about the impact they could have on the environment. Next these quadriptyques, 5 very large pictures will also be explained to excite the magnificence of the Icelandic landscapes.

Professional photographer from now on two years, I like traveling around our globe, and I am just back from a journey of several months in New Zealand. I realize regularly reports, portraits and Corporate for private, bussiness or individuals. My status of independent photographer just allows me to make it as a living, but not to organize a worthy exhibition. That's why I need you. The small participation of each would allow me to get an accomplished and professional work.

Waar dient de collecte voor
Funds will be of essentially used for setting the exhibition up, this winter 2015-2016 in Brittany. I have already financed and bought my plane tickets, and I will take charge of my expenses in Iceland (food, accomodation...) I need approximately 1600€ to make the exhibition. The price of the prints is the biggest part. As every professional photographer, I am particularly attached to present a good quality work. The images will be print on a good quality paper (Fine Arts) and plywood on a dibond support.
Setting up an exhibition also need some additional costs: the hanging, the rides , the printing of communication documents (posters, flyers...), the buffet for the private viewing.
Your fund will not only be a final contribution, but also be a moral contribution. Your support will make easier for me to find partners or sponsors, place of exhibition, mediatization, etc. I also hope that this would make the Icelanders be more concerned about my project and thus be all reluctant to pose in front of my lens. During my trip, I won't forget you and you will be informed about the progress of the project : via some images and articles on my facebook page and instagram. You could also receive some postcards, letters and e-mail. When I will be back in France, the report of the project will be visible on my Web site, which will be updated next winter.
Thank you for the interest you could carried in those words and I will close this writing by two quotes in relation with my photographic ambitions:
"A journey of one thousand leagues always begins with a first step" Loa-Tseu
"As all that matters in life, a beautiful journey is a work of art" André Suarès
