The project

L'antigonie is an approximately 01:30:00 long piece of music and contemporary dance which re-contextualizes the myth of Antigone contemporaniously exploring the body states characters are going through as well as the embodiment of frustration and tragedy.

In collaboration for the second time with Greek composer Greg Emfietzis since

Défigure sur la plage inerte already funded by KIssKissBankBank last March 2014, young free lance choreographer Aline Derderian will take this opportunity to make a tribute to her Armenian origins for the hundred anniversary of the Armenian genocide of 1915 in her own way, involving Armenian dance basis and its folklore to a more conceptual and minimalist aesthetic.

In the challenge that is diffusing contemporary performance towards Armenian community and vice versa, Consensus cie will showcase its work at TripSpace Projects in Haggerston (East London) on May 8th and 9th 2015.

Aline Derderian has been dancing since childhood and this has gradually become a main part of her life when she attended Aubagne Conservatoire of Contemporary and Classical Ballet Dance ( South of France ) and completed her cycles. After completing her A-level studies in Literature, Philosophy, History of Art and Contemporary Dance, she re-located to Paris in 2011 where she attended Studio Harmonic for a one year dance training program directed by Corinne Lanselle and graduated. Parallel to this she studied Literature and Arts at Paris Diderot VII. She is currently completing a BA(hons) Performance Design & Practice at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design of London.    Aline is at the origin of CONSENSUS CIE that she created last May 28th 2014 and directs.

"I’m interested in the human being more than anything else. That is why working with professional dancers as well as people unaware of their own gracefulness inspires me. I believe in the idea that we as people cannot contrive our true essence or fragility : they are both things you cannot learn : the roots.

My work also exists to attempt to break down the barriers between live performance and artefact wondering how the performance cannot be only ephemeral or recorded by running different collaborations  gathering different media like live music, sculpture, photography between others."

Greg Emfietzis

The music of Gregory Emfietzis explores the drama, psychology and ritualism of public performance. Reaching far beyond sound alone it embraces staging, lighting, dramaturgy, costume design and more. Greg Emfietzis is collaborating for the second time with Aline Derderian for CONSENSUS cie new production to come next May 2015.

Some works, such as the miniature opera Mirror, mirror on the wall: the crucial moment, seem written as much for actors as musicians. Others, such as How to… corrupt someone, tend towards a more instrumental or sonic theatre. In one of his latest projects, Music Impossible, a ‘magnified’ shadow theatre piece funded by the London Symphony Orchestra’s Soundhub scheme and Arts Council (England), a fairytale story is narrated by musicians themselves as acoustic and visual puppets.   Emfietzis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece.

He played the violin and sang, performing in many international festivals, concerts and operas, before and while taking a degree in Music Science and Art at the University of Macedonia. He moved to the UK in 2004, to study composition with Christopher Fox at Huddersfield University and with Fox, Richard Barrett and Jennifer Walshe at Brunel University.     His music has been performed by leading ensembles across Europe and North America. Recent performances include, the quintet Fear (not) premiered by members of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras at the Wiener Konzerthaus, the opera The Darkness of Mistico staged at the Greek National Opera House (Athens), the solo cello The Dark Art of Obscurantism -a commission by the London Sinfonietta- performed by Olly Coates during LS’s New Music Show 4 festival, and Sisyphus Victimised for 9 musicians, conductor, video projection and a piano premiered by musicians of  the London Symphony Orchestra (as part of his residency with the LSO).

Other groups he has worked with include Apartment House (UK), Asamisimasa (Norway), Greek Contemporary Music Ensemble (Greece), London Contemporary Orchestra (UK), Orkest de Ereprijs (Netherlands) and the Quasars Ensemble (Slovakia).

In addition to the above, Emfietzis is Composer in Residence at the Youth Music Centre (London), Artistic Director of the Metapraxis Ensemble and, with Nicholas Peters, a co-founder of Underscore Duo.

Waar dient de collecte voor

"The collect would definitely help us to cover many of the expanses. It is fundamental that people who are interested in our work or the audience who will come to attend the shows get conscious about the fact the lack of financial support towards art students and further on emergent artists restricts the ambition we have to create a high qualited cross-disciplinary piece of work involving contemporary dance, live music and set design. Your support is essential to this project."  Aline Derderian
