Beyond the cinematographic works for which they are most known, they have each directed documentary films in witness to the everyday life, the struggle and sometimes the failures of working class communities, in Belgium and in England. The idea for the film was germinated in March of 2014. Over the course of several visits and many exchanges, this idea was developed into a film synopsis, taken on by a Parisian production company and sent to a major French public television channel. The immediate interest the project first sparked led to a protected waiting game. While the station has expressed their curiosity from time to time, they have yet to come to a decision on the project. Meanwhile, Le Havre’s old working class neighborhoods are being slowly demolished and labor relations have deteriorated as the port prepares to celebrate its 500th anniversary. <img alt="Baccgt-1463131616" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/315938/BACCGT-1463131616.jpg"> By the nature of the project itself, a solidarity effort such as crowdfunding has become imperative. It’s only with your support that 'La classe, ouvrière', anchored in a decisive electoral year in France and the US, will develop from an idea to a film. She has written and directed many films and news features for European television channels. Senior Correspondent, Editor-in-Chief, New York City Bureau Chief; she has also been a senior reporter covering many conflicts around the globe, from Afghanistan to El Salvador, Bosnia to Iraq. Her recent filmography includes documentaries on the Dardenne Brothers and their Rosetta (2015/Arte), on Asghar Farhadi in Tehran for a Separation (2013/Arte), Calais, Dead End, news feature on refugees in Calais and their fates once in the United Kingdom, Land of Dust, news feature on labour conditions in the South African grape industry for IRIN (2014), The Equation of Love, web documentary on the work of the Gottman’s (2012/France Televisions) and The Island, documentary on the Scottish island of Foula and the struggle for survival of its 29 inhabitants (2011/France 5). <img alt="Logo2_-_low-1463131832" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/315942/LOGO2_-_LOW-1463131832.jpeg">

Allocation of funds

Nos engagements: 50 000 € et plus: le tournage, à raison d'une semaine en moyenne par mois, s'étendra sur une année. L'essentiel des fonds récoltés, après ponction des taxes et des impôts, sera reversé au film, couvrant la location du matériel, les déplacements et le logement au Havre. L'achat indispensable de disques de stockage pour engranger les images tournées sera une priorité, le film étant tournée en 4K. L'auteur/réalisateur, le cameraman et le monteur seront indemnisés a minima. 60 000 € et plus: les sommes supplémentaires permettront de suivre nos personnages en Europe et dans le reste du monde. L'Internationale des Dockers est en effet une partie essentielle du film, montrant la force immense de la solidarité -90 000 adhérents à l'International Dockers Council- mais aussi la menace similaire de l'automatisation. L'équipe du film envisagera une rétribution plus régulière. 70 000€ et plus: une journée de location d'un drone sera possible, la meilleure manière de montrer l'immensité, la beauté aussi des docks et de son impressionnante activité portuaire. Le film peut bénéficier d'un temps alloué de montages image, son et d'une post-production conformes aux exigences d'une diffusion à la télévision et au cinéma. 6 à 8 semaines pour un 52 minutes, 8 à 10 pour un 70 minutes. Il sera possible d'aider le travail de l'équipe de deux personnes -réalisateur, cameraman-, grâce à la location de matériel supplémentaire, de son notamment. Le budget permettra de réaliser des copies pour envoyer le documentaire dans les nombreux festivals permettant de le montrer et de le faire connaître. 80 000€ et plus: un ingénieur du son et une assistante de production/documentaliste pourront être ajoutés à l'équipe de tournage. On imagine alors un temps de travail étendu, ouvrant la possibilité de réunir assez de séquences pour la confection d'un 90 minutes. L'engagement d'un traducteur et d'un distributeur aidera à la vente et à la représentation du film dans les salles et les médias européens et mondiaux. L'équipe complète pourra être rémunérée de manière juste, au tarif syndical, bénéficiant alors des droits sociaux conformes à leurs différents métiers.
