Gender studies and transgender issues are in every conversation nowadays. It's really important for everybody to understand what is going on and how to make the whole word progress concerning trans* rights. That's the point of this documentary.

Filmed in Sweden, "Laisse parler les genres" ("let's talk about gender" in French) presents, with interviews and an immersion in the Swedish way of life, the basics of gender and more precisely living conditions of trans* persons and trans* rights.

Why choose Sweden ?

Trans* rights are, in Sweden, almost perfect. It's the first country to allow the change of gender markers on official papers, in 1972. New evolution in January 2013 : "forced sterilization" (operated during re-assignation surgery) is known by the broader public and revoked. In Europe, only 3 countries decided to abrogate this law : Sweden, Germany and Switzerland.

Comparing Sweden with other countries, the documentary shows all the possibility for the world to accept and integrate trans* people with rights and a great change in the way of thinking.

How ?

By mixing discovery of Swedish personalities and trans* issues awareness. By discussing with trans* person and couples but also LGBTQ associations volunteers (RFSL, RFSU, FPES), leading figures of Sweden cultural world and members of the medical and legal domain.

Through their testimony, terms definitions and debate explanations appear. Notions of gender, sex or sexual identity are clarified to understand what is going on and know how to act.

Gender questions have an impact on our society. If you understand them, you are able to take a step towards a better acceptation of the other.

By who ?

Every extra euro would help taking the documentary to the next level. With the initial budget, the documentary would be filmed, directed and edited by one and only person. 500 extra euros ? It's a film editor that can come to help on the documentary. 1000 extra euros ? Here comes a cameraman !

In short, you decide what kind of treatment this documentary deserve !
