The Soundtrack of თბილისი - Vinyl LP
Hello, გამარჯობა, Moin, Servus & Salut!
My name is Magnus Lorenz and I am studying Documentary Filmmaking at the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (Romania).
In 1977 the Georgian drinking song "ჩაკრულო - Tchakrulo" as part of the Voyager One Golden Record was sent to space. In 2019, I bring the Georgian Soundtrack of თბილისი (Tbilisi) back to Earth right on your turntables. Therefore I need a little bit of support!
My connection to Georgia
Since 2010, when I worked as a volunteer at the 21st Public School in Tbilisi, I have been inextricably linked to this city and the lovely people of Georgia. From 2010 to 2012, I organized the "Fotomarathon Tbilisi" twice and worked twice at the "Tbilisi Open Air" music festival.
What is my project about?
The goal of this crowdfunding campaign is to release the soundtrack of my planned film about the Georgian music scene as a vinyl record.
Through my work at the “Tbilisi Open Air” Festival I came in touch with many local bands and musicians. You can get an overview of this in my radio show "Auslandsspionage" from 2012, where I presented a total of 16 different songs from Tbilisi. At the moment there is a lot of talk about the upcoming techno music of Tbilisi, which is why electronic music will be a key part of the album. My friend Ladouka (OTHR, Sevda, Oimactta) – who is a music producer and DJ in the famous Georgian techno club KHIDI – will contribute at least one song and guides me deeper into his scene. Sandro aka Tete Noise is taking me more into an experimental direction while Holly introduces me to traditional polyphonic Georgian singing. As you can see, there are no genre boundaries for the soundtrack and you can expect a colourful mix of styles.
If you support my crowdfunding campaign you will help us to produce the soundtrack of my film that we are going to publish on a two-sided 12” vinyl with up to 42 minutes of playtime.
As you may know the production of vinyl is quite expensive and that’s why we need your support!
None of us works full-time in the film or music production. Therefore, the production schedule for the record is linked to my studies in Cluj-Napoca, which I will finish by September 2019 with my master thesis and my graduation film. The shipping of the finished records is therefore scheduled for October 2019. I will announce possible changes here.

Waar dient de collecte voor
What do we use the money for?
This is a non-profit project. Rather than selling the vinyl online or in stores, it will be given away purely to promote the film and the music scene of Tbilisi. If we collect 6000€ (incl. 1000€ personal contribution) we are going to produce 500 high-quality vinyl records that we are going to share with:
- you (who ordered a vinyl as reward)
- the musicians (who contributed their songs)
- other influencers & multipliers (who help us promote the accompanying film).
In case the project goal is achieved, the money from this campaign goes to me and I will use it exclusively for project related expenses. I will process that as transparently and understandably as possible.
Why 6000 Euro?
In this pie chart, we show what expenses we have to cover with 6000€. 87% will go directly to the album production and distribution (incl. mastering, design and shipping), 8% to the crowdfunding platform 'KissKissBankBank' and 5% to 'Sea Watch' - a non-profit organization that is rescuing refugees and migrants in the Mediterranean Sea.
Calculation for the 6000€ Goal:
- Vinyl Production: 2600€
- Mastering Songs: 850€
- Mastering Vinyl: 750€
- Vinyl Art Design: 550€
- Shipping/Distribution: 550€
- KissKissBankBank (8% of 5000€): 400€
- Donation Sea Watch (5% of 6000€): 300€
- Financial Contribution Magnus: -1000€
Crowdfunding Goal: 5000€
In case we exceed our goal, the additional budget stays in the same project and is going to be used for the production of the accompanying film.
It's all or nothing
If you've been convinced by my project, you just have to create an account here on 'KissKissBankBank' and decide on an amount to invest in the project.
IMPORTANT: 'KissKissBankBank' is not a bank! So you do not have to worry about opening a bank account here. KissKissBankBank is a regular crowdfunding platform where members can invest in projects of their choice.
The transaction can be done by Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Bancontact, iDeal, Giropay and Sofort payment. Your money will be kept by 'KissKissBankBank' until my project reaches at least 5000€. If that fails, you will get back your money without any loss and the vinyl record production won’t happen... But let's stay optimistic!
What do you get for your contribution?
As a thank you for your financial contribution, you can choose a reward from the right column: We offer the album as vinyl record, digital download or CD version. If you want to support us even more there is the "1% Special Supporter Package" and the "10% Co-Producer Package". You will also receive a discount if you order 5 (-17%) or 10 (-31%) records at once. And for people from Transylvania and tourists in Tbilisi, there are two very special choices.
PS: You can also choose a free amount without reward and if the campaign is successful, your contribution is also considered as a donation to your tax return (in some countries).
How do you stay up to date?
If you support my campaign, you will become an official supporter of my project and we will stay in touch here on 'KissKissBankBank'. If there are news about the project, I will tell you here. You also have the opportunity to write comments or ask questions. In addition, you can reach me by e-mail: email@example.com.
I need your support for producing the The Soundtrack of თბილისი (Tbilisi) as vinyl LP. This is a non-profit project as part of my documentary filmmaking studies. Your money goes directly into the production of at least 500 high-quality vinyl records, which you can expect from October 2019. Every small contribution to the project is very important and the more people you tell about the campaign, the more likely it is to succeed.
At the end I just have to say thank you for your support and keep my fingers crossed that we reach the goal together!
