Urban Stories

Urban Stories is a project blending street art with dub music around an urban theme. The emphasis is put on the promotion of these forms of artistic expression that are inspired by the city.

On the program, a one-shot exhibition by street artists (Bastek, Morèje, Nemi Uhu, No Rules corp, Suriani, Tarek...) and concerts (Rootsteppa, Dubamix) synchronized with live painting, but also a debate with the participation of the artists and the audience to discuss the relationship between the city and the artistic imagination.

We are looking forward to meeting you on Saturday, 27th of April 2013 at Mains d’Œuvres! But before, we need your support!

A moment of exchange and sharing

The main concern of the project is to highlight the forms of artistic expression that are stimulated by the urban lifestyle. Therefore, the event is focused on street art as well as on dub culture, the latter extending today on electronic music, creating a hybrid experience that is similar to the diversity of our cities.

Our purpose is to create an atmosphere in which these two forms of art and the public can get to know each other and exchange among themselves, in order to share and comprehend the artistic perception of the world that surrounds us.

Oscillating back and forth between musical notes and street artists’ works, you will discover these two universes, fuelled by the city and feeding the city in a circular movement.

On the program...

The exhibition

Outlaw and beyond the walls, yes… Yet artists! Even though their exhibition space, illicit, is the street, Bastek, Morèje, Nemi Uhu, No Rules corp, Suriani, Tarek… are full-fledged artists. Each of their creation is the result of a veritable process of artistic reflection. During the whole event, they will be present to display their works and the urban universe from another perspective.

The debate

When image meets sound… Around the issue of creation and diffusion under urban conditions, the street artists and musicians will discuss with the audience the influences of city life leading them to create. The aim being to provoke an encounter, they will exchange views on what the status of “urban artist” implies.

The concerts

On dub rhythms by Rootsteppa and Dubamix, the concerts promise to carry the public to the heart of city sounds. But that’s not all! Synchronized with these positive vibrations, the street artists will be sharing the stage with the musicians, reflecting the urban influence on their inspirations.

So come join us Saturday, 27th of April 2013 at Mains d’Œuvres!
