A group of students associated with a Captain shaken by a series of collisions between his ship and whales are at the root of Souffleurs d’Ecume, born in 2000. Now professionalised, the NGO works for the conservation of Mediterranean cetaceans. Reducing collision risks between ships and large cetaceans is its historical field of expertise. The NGO also works on the knowledge and management of the whale-watching activity (monitoring, training of operators, spread of a certification to ensure a sustainable management of the activity). Partner of the Fondation Nicolas Hulot, Souffleurs d'Ecume works mainly in the framework of the activities of the Pelagos Sanctuary and the ACCOBAMS Agreement. The NGO federates and positively involves representatives from human activities to define applicable and progressive measures in a collaborative way in a perspective of continuous improvement. Raising awareness among the public, training professionals, conducting research programmes and developing conservation tools are part of the panel of means implemented by the NGO. Une équipe permanente d'une dizaine de personnes et une trentaine de bénévoles composent l'association.
