Meet my cows, taste my cheese and discover my village through my dairy caravan ! Hummm, sounds interesting....

The project

A Dairy caravan where I can make my cheese and where you can enjoy good homemade products straight from the producer, discover the village, its history, the herd and much much more....

First things first, as without the cows, there can be no milk, and without the milk, there can be no dairy caravan to indulge in delicious homemade cheese !

My name is Audrey. I am 29 years old and my aim is to reintroduce cows in the valley of Nevache, just like in the old times. I've been making cheese for the past 4 years, mainly in switzerland, where I was trained, and now wish to build my dairy caravan to offer you fresh products straight from the heard.

This Dairy Farm will be held by the friendliest farmers you've ever seen;) Maxime, my second half, is a hiking guide and will be more than pleased to guide through our valley. Myself, Audrey, a talented cheese maker, just waiting to have you taste the best cheese in the valley. And our two little girls, Lila-Plume and Luz-Camomille, 2 and 3 years old, blond as golden wheat who'll just love presenting our cows and showing you how to pet them.

I have been making cheese for the past 4 years, working in dairy farms in France & Switzerland. This passion has been growing, growing, growing, to the benefit of my family, friends and neighbors with whom I share my products !

My home becoming too small to contain all this cheese, and eager to share them with passers-by, tourists and visitors, I wish to take this one step further and build my own dairy establishment.

The aim is to continue making my homemade cheese, but be able to offer them to a larger public, because good things are made to share.

A dairy farm in the heart of the mountains, where you can enjoy fresh products! MMMmmmm !

Straight from the cow to your mouth ! Come taste yogurts, cream cheese, butter, and specialty cheeses straight from the farm.

It'll also be the opportunity for you to discover original recipes and other natural products already available on the Briançon and Névache farmer's market such as my delicious homemade jams, our chicken's eggs, our fruit juices and much more !.... All straight from the garden !

Good products is one, thing, but what more? This is about sharing, having a good and coming back with an experience to share.

Well, can't think of a better way of living this experience than by discovering the valley, the village, the farm and the cows through an unforgettable treasure hunt. Fun guaranteed for all !

This project would have no sense for us if it didn't have the objective of uniting each and everyone's strengths in a more global project for the Nevache Valley. Many of us in the village have ambitious projects of developing agricultural projects and we are all working together, hands in hands.

Don't hesitate to check out other projects in the community:

Laurent DARMAS:

la ferme du clos

Agricultural practice is dwelling in the valley and slowly, the valley is closing up. We don't want to let it die! By reintroducing our cows on the land, we'll contribute to:

- maintaining the fields,

- help reestablish the balance between sheep herds and cow herds,

- respect the endemic/protected fauna and flora.

With the cows back in town, we'll bring back to life traditions long forgotten such as the transhumance, and much much more.

Why fund it?

Why fund it?

We're all set in terms of equipment. As I've been making cheese for the past 4 years, I already have all the necessary material & supplies to make cheese from cows milk (trier, thermometer, cheese cloths, moulds, draining mats, press, cheese trier, cheese cutter and skimmer, etc.. total estimated cost of €2,500.)

We've got the trailer on which we will be building our wooden dairy caravan - €500

Our cows will be free to roam, but as we don't want them going to our neighbors fields, we've purchased the solar battery and fences - €500

At last but not least, the fields, future home of our cows to come, where we will install our dairy caravan – €5,000

So up to now we've already pre-financed €8,500! WOW!

What's left to fund

We've budgeted €4,000 for the wood, isolation, coating, table & sink to build the caravan. The plumbing, electricity and gas will be installed by Maxime.

The mobile milking unit, to follow my cows around, and milk them in their fields, is estimated at €1,500.

As we don't yet have our own cows, we'd like to start off with 2 cows: €3,000.

A complementary estimated budget of €8,500 to fund !
