Rethinking International Student Education
RISE International School of Paris, a private, nonprofit, bilingual middle school (ages 11–15), bridges the educational and emotional gap between elementary and high school and prepares students for an American, British, or French secondary school.
At RISE, we believe that students are unique individuals who learn differently, must be active participants in the classroom, and have the power to promote social change. We encourage our students to be confident in their academic and social abilities and committed to a life filled with learning in order to become compassionate global citizens.
RISE, a progressive approach to middle school education, offers an individualized bilingual program within small multiage classes. Our program has a strong emphasis on core subjects (English and French language arts, mathematics, science), interdisciplinary classes and project and service based learning. By focusing on team and community building, in addition to our one-to-one advisory program, RISE also considers the importance of the whole child within the school setting.
By focusing on students’ strengths and interests, our mission is to inspire confidence, curiosity, and adaptability in young people while developing the academic and social skills necessary to succeed within the global community.
Michele Silvestri brings a lifelong commitment to social change and almost 20 years experience in bilingual and international education to RISE. An accomplished teacher and administrator, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Education with a specialty in English as a New Language.
She has spent her entire career preparing for the creation of RISE by focusing on developing middle school programs which inspire confidence, curiosity, and adaptability in her students. Her teaching and administrative experience extend across the globe and include the USA, Haiti, Kenya, and France. In her most recent position as the American Section’s Head of History at the prestigious Lycée International in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France, Michele spearheaded numerous initiatives to aide students in developing the academic and social skills necessary to thrive in their rigorous school environment.
As a mother of four bilingual children, a commitment to preparing young people to become confident and compassionate global citizens extends beyond Michele’s classroom and personal life.
Janine Springall comes to RISE with a passion for children and education.

Janine moved to France in 1998 from Seattle and has spent a decade working alongside teachers and parents in her role as President of her children’s international school's Parent Teacher Association. In this capacity, Janine demonstrated her love for teaching and learning with her devotion to building a strong school community. Her training and area of particular interest includes dyslexia and dyspraxia. She has taught ENL (English as a New Language) at the primary school level. She has faced first-hand the joys and challenges in the classroom for students with special needs through her own son’s experiences with dyslexia and is committed to the development of academic and social skills for all children in the ever challenging global community.
