The project

O colectivo, que veio a Lisboa em 2011, para uma performance no Palácio Belmonte no programa das Festas de Lisboa tem vindo a participar em  performances individuais e varias exposições de grupo no Centro Pompidou, “Paris-Delhi-Bombay” 2011, “Hors Pistes2010”;  KaZantip Republic 2011; Florence Gould Hall (New York )2012; ARMA 17 Moscovo 2012; Lille Fantastic, Lille 2012;  “Le son de nous” com Philippe Starck, Festival International Exit, Maison des Arts de Créteil, 2010; Musée d’Art Contemporain de Naples; Villa Noailles, Hyères, 2010; Singapour Art Museum, 2010; Exposition universelle 2010, Shanghai; “Art, Talks & Sensations” Abu Dhabi Fair, 2010; “ La Nuit Blanche” Paris 2009; Chanel Mobile Art Soundscape" projecto sonoro em colaboração com a maison de couture Chanel (2009);

The Black Sea Diary, a unique sound portrait of the Black Sea, those who live on its shores, and what thrives beneath its waters.

Medea is an original composition based on recordings of radio waves as well as voice and sound fragments collected by Soundwalk Collective during a two-month crossing in a sailing boat specially equipped with scanners, microphones and high-range aerials.
Medea reaches into Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Crimea, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria and embarks on a sound reading of a region of the world whose quivering beauty remains cruel and obscure – akin to the ancient Medea.

The Soundwalk Collective departed from the port of Istanbul for a two-month sailing trip along the coast of the Black Sea, with the purpose of collecting and composing the sounds that will make up the sound project.

Sailing clockwise for 3000 Km, at a distance of 15 miles from the coast in order to clearly capture all possible radio communications and musical happenings between the water and the land, Soundwalk intercepted communication from Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia and Turkey.

While at sea, all recordings were catalogued, edited and layered, and finally pressed onto custom-made vinyl records which contain the separate elements of the final sound piece for installation and performance.

A book and a film complete the Black Sea Project.

The members of Soundwalk will use turntables and live sound processing tools to create a two hour audio visual experience. It promises to be an extraordinary experience.Pantheonoi

Who is SOUNDWALK COLLECTIVE?

SOUNDWALK COLLECTIVE is an international art collective based in New York City.
Since 2000 they have been sonic nomads, embarking on never ending journeys from the desolate land of Bessarabia to the desert of Rub al Khali. By exploring and documenting the world around us through its sounds, the Collective abstracts and re-composes narrative sound pieces through fragments of reality to form distinct audible journeys.

The Collective's live performances are diverse and often site and venue specific. They use a combination of custom-cut vinyl records with multiple turntables, laptops and various FX processing pedals and mixers. Although sound and music are the primary forces in the live setting, projection of video specific to each performance piece creates an environment that is unescapable and unique. Live performances can also be transformed into temporary or permanent installations, post-performance, through custom-made turntables that are programmed to move automatically based on a musical score.
Aesthetic refinement and conceptual narrative is paired with a performative impulse, making Soundwalk Collective’s shows intimate and powerful.

Created by Stephan Crasneanscki who lives and works in New York, the Collective's recent installations and performances were shown at Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris); MADRe Museum of Contemporary Art (Napoli); New Museum (New York); National Museum of Singapore NMS (Singapore); Abu Dhabi: Art, Talks and Senstions (Abu Dhabi); Mobile Art by Zaha Hadid (Hong kong, Tokyo, New York); EXIT Festival at Maison des Arts de Creteils (Paris); Villa de Noailles - Centre d'Art et de Culture Contemporain (Hyères); Gare Saint Saveur (Lille); Palacio Belmonte (Lisbon); KaZantip Republic 2011; Florence Gould Hall (New York); ARMA 17 (Moscow).

SOUNDWALK COLLECTIVE comprises four members:
Stephan Crasneanscki (France)
Dug Winningham (USA)
Simone Merli (Italy)
Kamran Sadeghi (Iran-USA)

Why fund it?

It's a fantastic experience to share and have people discover one other geography.
