The project

Saxophone today : from Europe to Latin America is an initiative led by the duo Miradas Cruzadas that will be take place in Argentine in the summer 2014. Through concerts and masterclasses, the duo will be meeting argentinian saxophonists and composers, to introduce them to contemporary music for saxophone. The duo will play and teach in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, La Pampa, San Juan… The curriculum they offer is centered around the discovering contemporary music : effects, expression, works on the sound of saxophone… The concert program they offer is an international program, with many European and South American pieces, including many Argentine premiere and two world premieres, being written by Nicolas Garcia-Medici and Tomas Gubitsch.

Fascinated with cultural exchanges, Olivier Duverger started long ago to go to discover the world by his own. For him, music, and particularly contemporary music, is only possible enriched with cultural diversity, meetings and travel.

Born in Argentina, Andrés Castellani, studied in Buenos Aires, and then he wanted to discover the world and flew to Bordeaux, where he discovered contemporary music, and then in Strasbourg, where he met a saxophone class coming from all over the world. These experiences gave him the idea of making discover his born-country to his duo partner.

We want to show to french and argentinian audiences that contemporary music is both consequence and origin of cultural diversity.

We have been invited in universities, conservatories and music schools in Argentina, to give master-classes to both saxophonists and composition students. We want to make the discover creation for saxophone, and show them how other composers put their cultural roots into their music. At the end of the tour, music will be ordered to be premiered in Strasbourg during the year 2014-2015.

We also have been invited to many concert halls, and to "2nd Saxophone Meetings of La Pampa". We chose for those concerts a international program, with pieces from Argentina, France, Colombia, Italia, Austria, United-States and Russia, written during the last 30 years. Most of these musics will be played for the first time in Argentina and the show will be the reflect of our work with popular music. We'll also perform two world premiere, as we ordered two pieces to Nicola Garcia-Medici, argentinian composer and Tomás Gubitsch, guitar player and argentinian composer, established in France.
