"W.A.K.A" is an indie French and Cameroonian feature project, whose main theme is the struggle of a mother to protect and provide everything to her child. For him, she is literally ready to do anything ... Feel free to bring your stone to the building!

The project

W.A.K.A is an independent Franco - Cameroonian feature project whose shooting is scheduled from 19 November to 23 December 2012 in Douala, Cameroon.

W.A.K.A (Pitch)

Mathilde, a woman in her thirties, works as a waitress at a snack bar in Douala, Cameroon. Assaulted and raped one evening while she gets back home after work, Mathilde gets pregnant and loses her job. When she decides to keep the baby anyway,  follows a descent into hell...

The story of "W.A.K.A" is primarily that of a mother desperate to provide needs for her child and preserve his purity and innocence. By choosing to confront this woman to the world of prostitution, the aim is clearly to put her in a degrading position in the society, in order to show better her strength and her fight as a mother.   The film is a reflection on what a "good mother" is, to show that its most fair definition is not necessarily the one obvious to us.   Actors from the Cameroonian diaspora as Patricia Bakalack or Yoli Fuller (2010 Cannes Talent), will mingle with those Cameroonian such as Alain Bomo Bomo to create strong characters.

A French actor Bruno Henry (French voice of many American actors, also winner of several awards as an actor) also joins the cast with a real desire to discover and shoot in Africa. And finally, my taste for challenges led me to propose one of the main role at the Cameroonian journalist Céline Victoria Fotso ("Je Wanda Magazine"), whose charisma and personality has immediately convinced me of her potential talent as an actress.

But the adventure of "W.A.K.A" will also be particularly the one of film collaboration between France and Cameroon. My aim: to go around the world with this movie through festivals, to have theaters release and especially, to create from more Cameroonian filmmakers the envy to make more ambitious movies and to those from abroad to more often choose their set in Africa in general and Cameroon in particular.

I have known Francoise Ellong for over two years, during her studies at our University I was her Masters degree program leader.  I have also viewed her work as part of our BKSTS activities and we have screened one of her films professionally here at the National Film Theatre in London.  Her films remain some of the very best student productions completed at the University.

I would recommend her to you unconditionally as a very talented young film maker and wish her all the very best for her future career.  The work she has produced in the past has been quite outstanding.  I am particularly impressed by her talents as a Director and screenwriter.  She is highly original and has shown great enterprise in realising her films.  Francoise is highly competent technically as well as creatively, she interacts with all other film professionals on her projects to a very high standard."

TRAILERS (Selection), previous projects

Why fund it?

To this date, several partners have joined the project to help us to do it. Thus, the airline company CAMAIR CO, has offered five tickets for 3 french team members (heads of departments) and to the two main actors to go to Cameroon: Director, Director of Photography , the Sound Recordist, Patricia Bakalack and Bruno Henry.

The money we want to collect, is directly related to technical needs during the shooting from 19 November to 23 December. The ideal amount is 11 818, € 92, but with half of it, we will be able to rent the filming unit for the movie:

5000€ (3.279.785) : Necessary for the Red Scarlet Pack

Thomas Moren,

The Director of Photography of the project is both an adventurer, a professional of image and someone passionate. The choice of shooting in Red Scarlet is in the aim to have the best quality for the film to offer a visually accurate final result.

About the work of Thomas Moren (Cinematographer of "W.A.K.A") on my Short Film "NEK *"  Christopher Stewart Daniel "(...) the cinematography is of high professional standard and very much matching the mood of the story. Congratulations to the DOP!!    "Guzelbf" Technically super clean and controlled, the light is beautiful and I especially like the way it is used to create different atmosphere in one place for example. The result is quality pro nothing to say.    "R-one Chaff, Mad Movies" I have (...) been admiring for the beautiful photography work giving the film a very nice visual character "
