MIX TECHNICS for a UNIQUE PRODUCTION in situ
WHY GAVDOS ? The idea starts from a project about rebuilding a shepherd’s house made with stones, earth and wood. A workshop is organised in April with volunteers from all over the world. Everybody goes to Gavdos with the same goal: work with local ressources and especially what you can find under your feet : the earth, rich and useful, the essence of the island.
People told us about a very slow way of life, NATURE everywhere, RESPECT for local people and places, tradition, but also actions, which mean RESISTANCE and consequently HOPE. In a European depression context, we have the responsibilty to let people EXPRESS, and LISTEN to them. We will take advantage of the earth workshop event to meet local and passing through people and try to give the most realistic portrait of a spectacularly unknown piece of Europe: Gavdos.
While some will dirty their hands working with earth, We will follow people of the island in their everyday life, adapting our normal lifestyle to the specifics of the small island. The particular spirit of Gavdos will certainly be worth thinking about it twice, so We will record the testimonies on papers, photos, drawings...giving different approaches. In other words, different voices will be heard and make us probably realise that living on the island is not only about earth, wind (and fire??), sheep and goats !
TOOLS and TECHNICS
Pauline : drawing, painting, writing. Her sketches and thoughts have always been part of her trips.
Charlotte is a Photographer. We will make a portrait of the island, following at least 3 people in the everyday life:
- Eva, a 10 years-old girl who knows only the island and goes to the only available school with one single child.
- Yorgos, the lighthouse guest, who saw his wife and son leaving Gavdos, and cannot stand leaving on an island anymore...
- Gelly, who decided years ago to relocate in Gavdos to rebuild the traditionnal sheperd's house owned once by her grandfather. She is very envolved in the social and political local life.
Back in France, We will contact galleries and venues where we can show our work to publics and of course KissBankers. Contacting magazines will be also part of our post-production mission.
The main goal is to give a certain point of view of the island, with a maximum of respect and non -intrusive approach.

A bit about us !
Charlotte Barraud :
" As a young photographer, I want to explore, discover other cultures, meet new faces, and immortalise the shared moments. It's essential for me to share this experience to a maximum of people, with my favourite artistic medium : photography. "
Pauline Fradin :
" Sketcher of portraits and unusual places. I've always been scribbling on whatever support I could find around me, organising exhibitions sometimes. That addictive activity is going to be close to Photography and Written thoughts and turn professional thanks to the Gavdos project! yeahhhh! "
