Adam Dix : In search of the author

<p><em>Dear all,</em></p> <p><em>It is with enthusiasm that we present to you our new short documentary project on London artist Adam Dix.</em></p> <p><em>This film is entitled &quot; In search of the author&quot; and will be fully funded by this crowdfunding given the great difficulty in Belgium to find support for projects that are not in French or Dutch.</em></p> <p><em>To bring this project to a successful conclusion, the film crew of Lionel Callewaert, Thomas Damas, Nil-Enzo Clementin and I, Nina Degraeve,&nbsp;need your collaboration to produce a quality documentary!</em></p> <p><em>We thank in advance all those who share this adventure with us </em>😊</p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629258/i_13-1573051616.jpg" /></p> <p><strong>GOALS&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><em>&quot; In search of the author &quot;is a short documentary that will be filmed in London in April/May 2020. Post-production, which includes image and sound editing, mixing, calibration and subtitling, will take place in June/July 2020. The film will be finalized for next summer and you can discover it in September!</em></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>PROJECT&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><em>Adam Dix&#39;s work poses the question of our relationship with technology in our culture of relentless communication. His work focuses on the future imagined by our predecessors. His guiding thread is the dissatisfaction and discomfort of the present time, to which nostalgic &quot;retro-futurism&quot; offers a contrast. </em></p> <p><em>As human beings, we have always sought to communicate with others as part of a collective framework, a sense of belonging and a common thread. From the birth of humanity, people have gathered around fires and practiced rituals and ceremonies. This human need to participate in a unifying experience has been accelerated and intensified by the advent of technology. The social platform has changed. Individuals continue to practice the rituals, but in front of their screens.</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629230/Adam-Dix-12-Apparition-1573048700.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 300px;" /></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629232/Adam-Dix-78-The-Founding-Fathers-1573048730.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 228px;" /></p> <p><em>In our time, users appropriate technology as an icon. In the composition of his paintings, Dix depicts human chains symbolising the direct current. He uses the human being as a receptacle of narration. The figure of the shaman is a key character seen as a mediator between the audience and the spiritual world. It forms the link between the individual and the technological object.</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629233/Adam-Dix-58-Receive-Thy-Message-1573048751.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 299px;" /></p> <p><em>Dix&rsquo;s work plunges us into the aesthetics of science fiction. During the 50&rsquo;s and 60&rsquo;s, science was in vogue when it was seen as the great rescuer that would lead to progress. Networks are the means of representing modernity and progress, but the worst and the best can and does happen. Dix encapsulates the conflict between the desire for new technologies and our nostalgia of the past.</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629235/The-History-Lesson-_lg-1573048783.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 240px;" /></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629236/Profile_lg-1573048795.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 214px;" /></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629237/Adam-Dix-85-The-Sentinels-1573048804.jpg" style="width: 300px; height: 300px;" /></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>THE TEAM</strong></p> <p><em>Our team consists of people coming out of film school and an English/French translator:</em></p> <p><em>Director: Nina Degraeve</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/630366/Nina_4-1573408694.jpg" style="width: 250px; height: 311px;" /></p> <p><em>Image: Lionel Callewaert</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/635221/Lionel-1575224491.jpg" style="width: 250px; height: 167px;" /></p> <p><em>Sound: Thomas Damas</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629899/Thomas-1573212559.jpg" style="width: 250px; height: 246px;" /></p> <p><em>Editing : Nil-Enzo Clementin</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/635222/Nilenzo-1575224566.jpg" style="width: 250px; height: 250px;" /></p> <p><em>Translation: Akonkwa Mubagwa</em></p> <p><img alt="" src="https://d3v4jsc54141g1.cloudfront.net/uploads/project_image/image/629900/Ako-1573212577.jpg" style="width: 250px; height: 250px;" /></p>
