ET SI ON REFAISAIT CARRIE ?

DOUBLE CARRIE ?

In order to celebrate the 20th year of my artistic dedication to the possibilities contained by the body double, I decided to work on a film that deeply influenced my cinephilia: Brian De Palma’s masterpiece, Carrie.

This film is indelibly imprinted on my mind, and the time has come to remake a section of it.

The moment Carrie becomes a woman is the most important to me; in this instant, she becomes another. It is a disturbing moment that definitely influenced me throughout my life.

In the locker room shower, Carrie gets her period and does not understand what is happening to her. She immediately becomes the laughing stock of the other girls, all of whom are already women.

Different, she finds herself stigmatized, ostracized...

Carrie chooses revenge, I chose art.

WHAT’S A BODY DOUBLE?

Deeply serious, anchored in queer theory but also humorous, my Body Double works are film duplicates. Like decals made shot by shot from original films, I produce transvestite doubles of iconic cinema. My works play with the concepts of memory, the copy, the tribute, and impersonation.

By upsetting normative sexuality and making my characters appear uniquely transgender, I deconstruct the importance of social criteria and offer hybrid works that shift between cinema and art. Of primary importance to me is to highlight the power of freedom and self-acceptance.

WHAT IS OUR PROJECT?

With this project and new video, I am embarking on an even more complex challenge than usual. My desire is to always exceed prior projects, to push my own limits (both technical and narrative) so that I can design a copy that in some ways has no precedent.

Body Double 32 will not be a simple decal but a kind of temporal and spatial contraction of De Palma’s feature film.

One actor will play all of the girls in the film in a looped scene. Repeatedly the characters with fade, move apart and pass away, only to come back again and play the score in an endless loop.

GENDER IS THE WORD

Raised with films, music videos, performances and disco music, my work is part of a double reflection on gender: sexual gender and artistic genre.

Always situating myself between the feminine and the masculine, video art and cinema, I question this otherness, this double mirror, which always invites us to change our expectations.

The total production cost of the film is 20,000 euros.

With support from FNAGP (Fondation Nationale des Arts Graphiques et Plastiques) and First Idea (NMNM, Nouveau Musée National de Monaco), Brice has already been able to raise the sum of 15,000 euros for his project.

All we need now is no more than 5,000 euros!

This is the minimum floor we need. If the crowdfunding exceeds the amount requested, everything will be reinvested in the film to make it even more successful because we are working actually with the minimum.

The film will be shot in the premises of the Ecole Nationale d'Art in Bourges from 26 November to 4 December.

In addition to the film studio that the school will put at our disposal, we will be supported by students both to build the sets and for the filming itself.

The funds raised will be distributed as follows:

- Construction of the cloakroom and set: 1,000 euros

- Costume: 750 euros

- Creation of music: 750 euros
