Iti-Iti
Hello !
Thanks for taking a little ride over here!
The book we want to talk to you about today is Iti-Iti, the story of a little queen unlike any other.
Iti-Iti is a lively and fearless heroine who would like to live her life, rather than be under the yoke of a very hard protocol. But when you’re a queen on the island of Taravana, you’re not allowed to touch the food. You’re not allowed to have friends. Not the right to touch the ground outside the palace. Not the right to bathe in the lagoon. Not the right…
📷 Over the words, Martine reveals this unusual little queen and takes us into a setting that resembles Polynesia, where she lived.
In this sunny and colorful universe, Laureline mixes sweetness and curiosity, according to her brushes and pencils.
A mischievous text, rich illustrations and a good dose of joie de vivre, this is the recipe we have concocted for you, we hope, your greatest pleasure!

“Authentic Parisian,” Martine, in the 1990s, wanted to leave her beloved city. She doesn’t know where to go, probably to the south? In 1994, sweep by friends away, she goes on two weeks of vacation in Polynesia. A year later, in 1995, she moved to Raiatea in the Leeward Islands with two of her sons. The eldest preferred to stay in Paris.
Polynesia, she barely knows where it is (as most people in France ). She knows nothing about it. But she will discover and learn. She “feeds” as she says. And she’s fascinated by this culture. She’s already a published writer. It will take time before she writes stories inspired by the Polynesian world. Her publishers in France (Syros, Bayard, etc.) follow her, but sometimes with reluctance! They tell her that it’s far Tahiti and that it doesn’t mean anything to the public.
The encounter with ‘Ura, Tahitian editions, allows her to anchor herself in the local landscape. But traditional publishers and their protocols bore her a little… the unconventional publisher ‘Api Tahiti helps her to gain her independence! Have her texts illustrated, translated, published online… take advantage of the modern means of self-publishing offered to “writers”.
This is how a story like Iti-Iti was born… thanks to Laureline’s talent and know-how. Here it is, beautiful, brand new!

Born in Paris a few years ago, then passed through Lyon and its suburbs,
Besançon, Brussels and the West Indies, I am now established in Beaujolais.
Illustrator graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, I’m not limited to a style. I like to search, explore, discover. From naturalistic illustration to the city, from tales to more serious stories, I like to get to grips with the universes. Collage, pencils, painting or watercolour, My office is a kitchen where every ingredient fits.
After two years of hard work, Iti-Iti is ready to be printed.
We want to have it printed in France, and especially take care of its realization. It is a fully illustrated album of 80 pages. The closed format is 25cm x 28cm. We would also like a cardboard cover and a sewn binding augmented by a wire slicer, in order to strengthen it.
Two versions of the album will be printed. One in French and the other in English (translated by Julian Foster). 📷 However, as a result of the pandemic, printing prices have soared (paper shortages, longer deadlines, etc.) and we need help to carry out our project.
If the first level is reached, thank you! It will already be great because we will then be able to print Iti-Iti in 1000 copies (500 in each language).
If the second stage is reached, we can then reduce the cost of each book by printing not 1000, but 1500 copies!
And finally, all that we can collect in addition will allow us to make meetings, salons, signings… and start our new project more serenely (It will be called Hoa, but Shh! It’s a surprise!).
Each «little bit» that you can put will bring us closer to this moment that we look forward to: the birth of our book.
And in the meantime, we love you very much!
Thank you for your support!
