Written by Helena Marquez and carried out on stage by her brother Ivan Marquez, these project has been ongoing for 3 years now. Finally, the project is getting to its first results and it's ready to be shown to the public for the first time!

The project

Starting from one of the multiple theories about Jim Morrison's death, three young artists on stage try to create an atmosphere that would allow to understand the primitive aspect of theatre as a cereminy. This is not a theatre play, its aim is to be a ritual to invoke Jim Morrison's inner shaman and to explore together with the audience the frontiers of art and spirituality.

(Les Chiens de Navarre, an example of a raw theatre)

Inspired by Morrison's poetry, Aldous Huxley's and William Blake's writing and from Antonin Artaud's vision of theatre, we aim at creating a living experience where the audience is fully involved. The project is partially inspired from rituals all over the world, and especially Latin America, where the artist lived or grew up.

Theatrical exploration

This is the first dramatic text written by Helena Marquez, always in dialogue with her brother. The aim of making a ceremony instead of a biographical play of Morrison is the first direction of the project. Thus, music is used as a central tool for awakening (as used in invocation ceremonies), the body is a receptacle used at the service of the ritual and the voice an instrument to provoque physical alterations. Nothing was clear at the beginning of the project, but every step was a very concret and pragmatic research phase. Now, a clear result is emerging out of months of work!

Our group is formed by two musicians (Jose "Chepe" Guerra from Guatemala; and Barbara Baumann from France) and Ivan Márquez (France and Mexico). We met during our bachelor at SciencesPo, in the latin-american program from Poitiers. Already there, Barbara and Chepe played together in a band, and Ivan and barbara were casted in a student's play. This is their first collaboration together!

Until now, we have worked by our own means: reheasing on a cellar for several months, recycling objects from the street for the set, eating cheap pizzas... because they taste good, actually!

But as the project is growing, so do the costs. Production costs will be around 300 euros 335 ( to be precise) by the time of the première. To that, we have to add the copyright licences (mandatory in France), the sound equipment rental and the theatre equipment.

With 650 euros, we can cover our costs, but not the theatre for the evenings. So this is the strict minimum for the project to exist. We also consider that donations are a way of buying yout tickets in advance (and for us to pay for the teatre)! So come on! support the artistic creation!

If this project works out for the première, we can apply for festivals and theatres were the project can be shared with even more people!
