MOSI is a photographic research project undertaken by Aëla Labbé - French dancer and photographer - co-founder of LUCANE in collaboration with Stéphane Imbert - French dancer and sculptor - and Bára Sigfúsdóttir - Icelandic choreographer dancer and performer.
LUCANE is a french based company co-founded by Aëla Labbé and Stéphane Imbert both dancers and visual artists. LUCANE is a multidisciplinary project aiming to create and develop works under different art forms (Performance/ exhibition/ Installation)
LUCANE has recently engage in a collaboration with Bara Sigfusdottir in order to deepen their common research on the relationships between the body and the image.

It was during my dance studies at the art school of Amsterdam (Hogeschool Voor De Kunsten) that I met Bára Sigfúsdóttir. Ever since then, a strong artistic cohesion was created in our respective paths.
The last solo choreography of Bára Sigfúsdóttir THE LOVER reflects on the relationship between the body and the nature, recurring themes of my photographic work.

In this new project I want to develop my work as a photographer - dancer - performer within the project of LUCANE as well as continuing an ongoing collaboration with Bára Sigfúsdóttir who appears in several photographs of my portfolio.

MOSI is a photographic research project that extends to the fields of choreography and performance.
The nature is a common concern.
Mosi is an Icelandic word for mosses, organic matter which necessary in the natural environment. In the most hostile environments, mosses provide a basis which allows the growth of other plant organisms.
In addition to being the country of origin of Bára Sigfúsdóttir, Iceland has established itself as an ideal location for photographic research by the richness and uniqueness of its nature particularly with its volcanic landscapes.
We decided to do two weeks of research from May 22 to June 4 in Iceland. These dates were chosen for the particular natural light at this time of year.

The body is what binds us
As we the three of us are movers, dancers-performers-choreographers.
Recently we performed together at the opening of my photographic exhibition at STUDIO BAXTON Bruxelles. We want to continue this artistic and human adventure.

In my photographic work I attempt to reflect on the body, its representations, its relationships with space and time, its particularities and its emotional power.
"...and then, as if the photographs would be embodied... three presences, moving through the space and time. Still and moving, still moving. An introduction to... maybe, a frame within a frame, or an ongoing series. A dance to photograph or a photograph to dance. A visual. A performance. Or else, a visual performance."

> Research and creation of silver photographic works inspired by the Icelandic environment in order to make one or several series.
The photographic work will be done in collaboration with Stéphane Imbert and Bára Sigfúsdóttir as subjects and outside eyes.
Places discussed with Bára Sigfúsdóttir for shooting :
Heiðmörk Rauðhólar | Mývatnssveit / Lake Myvatn | The Krafla volcano | Dimmuborgir | Bjarnarflag | Hljóðaklettar | Rauðhólar | Ásbyrgi
>Experience the typical icelandic way of life.
We will have the chance to be hosted by Bára’s mother in Reykavik and at her father in Myvatnssveit.
We want to share our time with the icelandic, to get to know and live within their culture (nature, folklore etc.)
>Give workshops around the body and the image to professionals and amators.
>Meet the cultural stakeholders for the continuoust of MOSI
After this time of research and creation , we consider creating a performance-exhibition and if we have enough funds we want to realize a FANZINE .

Waar dient de collecte voor
As an artist I have a double role - I am a dancer and a photographer. I did a professional dance education and photography is something that came alongside from inside and has become a strong part of my artistic expression and identity. This project is very special to me. It is the first time that I combine the two with a team of two artists who are close to me. It is something that I need to do and have wanted to do for a long time.
Because of my double role I did not manage to get funding from the french subsidy system. When you are not belonging fully to either dance or photography in the system, it is very difficult to get support. For them one should fit in one frame. But that is not my reality. And it does not cut my desire and necessity to create.
This is why now I have decided to invite YOU, the people who follow my work, the people that care about my work, the people that wish for my work to continue to exist to support MOSI.
It would mean a lot for me if you support me for this creation. THANK YOU - MERCI
CONCRETE EXPENSES :
The crowdfunding will cover the costs of films, prints and developments .
Furthermore it will help us to cover a part of the production costs taken by the association LUCANE - including a part of the travel costs and a part of the salaries - plus charges - for the three artists.
THE TOTAL COSTS INCLUDES 8% to KISS KISS BANK BANK + THE CHARGES FOR COUNTERPARTS .
If we achieve our goal, it will help us to do this research project without going into dept with our association.
If we exceed our goal and reach 4000€ - we can do this project in professional conditions with expenses and wages covered.
To live and work as an artist is beautiful but fragile.
