SMOKY MOUNTAIN // COURT METRAGE CAMBODGE

Our goal is to produce a short film of great artistic and technical quality with a strong narrative which we will submit it to the main national and international festival circuits hosting short films.

France is one of the few countries in the world that actively supports the production of short films films through the CNC (Center National Cinema and Animated Image). However, as our film will be shot entirely in Cambodia and in the Khmer language, we are not eligible for this support. Instead, we are looking elsewhere for assistance.

Fortunately, we've already received support for the soundtrack (a unique composition in association with Aubagne Festival) and the provision of post production equipment and facilities (by the Pour un Sourire d’Enfant [PSE] Film School in Cambodia).

The rest of the cost, to date, as been by carried by our director Albert who is paying directly out of his own pocket. But, this is not a realistic solution to meeting our objectives and we need further resources to finish the film. Your generous support can make this film a reality.

Albert Oriol was born in 1964 in Perpignan, France and studied cinema at the Sorbonne University.

Since 2013, he has been involved in the development of the PSE Film School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (technical trades of Image and Sound) thanks in particular to the establishment of a three-year partnership with the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière (France). Currently, he is working on writing of his first feature film which will also be set and shot in Cambodia.

Romain Trouillet is the man behind our original score.

A French composer, Romain creates mainly for cinema, theatre and commercials. He began his musical apprenticeship by integrating jazz and writing classes at the CNR Lille. In 2013, he obtained his master's degree and was admitted to the class of Composition of Music in the Image at CNSMD Lyon under the supervision of Gilles Alonzo and Serge Vella.

Latest compositions for film:

• "Wild" cinema, by Camille Vidal Naquet (2018 / feature film) Selection at the Semaine de la Critique at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

• "37 ° 4 S" by Adriano Valerio (2013 / short film) Special Mention - Short Film (Ex-aequo) at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival Quality Award of the original CNC music Kinodromo Prize "I mestieri del cinema" at the festival in Bologna, Italy.`

In 2012, after meeting ethnomusicologist Alain Dejacque, Romain became more and more interested in world music which began to influence his approach to composition. His interest in different musical cultures across the globe is evident in his work. For our film, he intends to use simple materials such as sachets, metal, and other recoveries associated with traditional Cambodian instruments to create a material-rich, original soundtrack.

Waar dient de collecte voor

• Compensation to our child actors through the NACOPCA
• Compensation to adult actors, extras and local technical teams
• Rental of additional lighting equipment for the night sequences (half of the film) and generators.

By supporting our project, even if just through sharing with your networks online or offline, you will contribute to the realisation of this film. Additionally we hope that, through our film, you will discover more about Cambodia and the realities that children like our character Sony face.

Your contribution will also go towards directly supporting child actors, through NACOPCA, as well as PSE Film School students participating in the project. Many of these children are from or living in extreme poverty and have worked collecting garbage at the landfill to support themselves and their families.

We hope you will enjoy our project and that you will discover a new side to Cambodia and it’s people.

Thank you for your support.
