Sunu Street! Formation de formateurs en danses urbaines au Sénégal // Urban dance professional training courses in Senegal

It's time to say STOP to the apocalyptic image of Africa as the cursed continent!

All we know is a colorful, culturally diverse and prolific Africa.

The future is today! AFRICA IS THE PRESENT!

More than just a project, “SUNU STREET” is the bright future that we are building, a new hope for the African youth through urban dances, a flagship for our rights and the recognition of our identity!

Why shouldn’t we give ourselves means to realize our dreams? A street dance school in Africa!

A place one can relate to get information and training in order to step forward.

A relevant professional training, which brings all the essential technical and educational skills to become dance teacher or choreographer.

Moreover, Art! Dancing, and the making of meaningful stage performances that carry out sensitivity and social messages. Our bodies and creative spirits as communication tools between ourselves.

An Art, a word, a need, mixed identities, equally influenced by modern as much as traditional urban dances.

We love it, we respect it, we protect it, this is “Sunu Street”, our street! And it’s also yours, enter the circle! The family will only get bigger!

A circle of friends, all dancers, driven by their passion for sharing, transmitting, meeting new people, gathering positive energies and varied universes towards artistic creations. Simple and authentic values which can allow the underserved youth to gain social inclusion through dancing!

Three talented street dancers, with strong skills in production and cultural actions, meet in Senegal. Let the brainstorming begin, give them a bit of time, and you’ll get the “Action team “!

A structuring and sustainable project, promoting urban dances in Senegal while proposing new career opportunities to the local young talents.

So far, the Sunu Street project has already realized:

The set up of a working space dedicated to urban dance practice. Two 5-weeks urban dance professional trainings course. One dancing piece and its broadcasting throughout the country.

Currently the project actively accounts with close to 90 registered members, 1 committed dance creation (“Nio Far”), 5 stage performances, and a multitude of educational activities towards the youth: workshops, screenings, debates, two sessions of professional trainings which allowed to put under the spotlight not less than 16 young talented dancers, coming from Senegal vibrant urban dance scene.

This year, the upcoming session of professional urban dance training will take place from July 27th to September 12th 2015, with new dancers short-listed

throughout the country!

Thanks to well-organized and tireless work, a united team, their will, committed partners and motivated Kiss Kiss bank bankers! We need more family members. Your support helps us to secure the project and to take the next steps.

In Blaise Senghor Regional Cultural Center, Fass district, Dakar, Sénégal, for the main part of our actions.

The participants are coming from Dakar and also from surrounding regions: Guédiawaye, Kaolak, Louga, Pikine, Saint-Louis du Sénégal and Thiès.

In France, to present our danse creation, to participate to urban events and battles.

The 8th of november 2014, four Sunu Street dancers flew to Lille where The Hip-Hop Games Concept Contest were taking place. The team took the second place and did represent Senegal with brio.

Because we recognize the urgent need, necessary and legitimate, ti develop the urban art in Senegal, in the name of social and cultural values.

- For the identity recognition of a talented youth,

- To convey a committed and non-violent message,

- To create a communication lever for our societies,

- To create artistic international encounter

In feburary 2015, the choreographer Heddy Maalem came in Dakar to discover the Sunu Street project. He came with Christopher Tew, a talented film maker, gifted of a daring and sensitive eye, coming straight from London.

This encounter led to the creation of an artistic production, a short movie, staging Pierre Belleka alias Dexter, a KRUMP dancer. Successful !

" This production is an important piece of the puzzle. Bringing brilliantly together a revendicative dance, a psychedelic music, which bury ourselves into this urgency to live, free, burning images of violence and misery, but also full of strength, thrust in a bright futur. The whole harmonize into a bold composition.

We are paying tribute to a contemporary Africa"
