Support Tom Dolan in the 2015 Mini Transt

I am Tom and I am a young Irish sailor who grew up on a farm in the Irish countryside. I am now living and racing full time in France, and I hope to be on the starting line of the 2015 Mini Transat race. This is a solo ocean race across the Atlantic Ocean from France to the Caribbean with a stopover in the Canary Islands. This race has been held every two years since 1977. It is contested on board the smallest ocean racing class of boat in the world. 4000 Miles, almost two months at sea, alone on a 21 foot boat. This race is considered by many to be one of the most extreme in sailing, and up until now there has been only two previous Irish entrants, and now i hope with all my heart to be the next.

It is my first season racing and things aren’t going too badly, I am currently 10th in the general ranking and second rookie. The largest challenge before me is to finalise the budget required to get my boat and I to the start line of the Transat, on September 19th. Unfortunately the sport with which I have dedicated my life is an expensive one; So hope you will consider supporting the project.

This is a single-handed race, but I cannot get there alone. I am therefore looking for partners to join me on this adventure. Even though this will be the first project of this kind on which I embark, I understand the importance of sponsorship in sport today. I thus plan to do the best I can to ensure that there is a mutual benefit to all parties involved. That it is not all take and no give. So if there is anything that you would like from me that is perhaps not listed in the rewards, or that I may simply not have thought of, please do not hesitate to contact me. We can easily organise outings on the boat, tours of the boat, signed photos, places on a powerboat at the race start, visits to your office or whatever you feel can help you get the most out of our partnership. Everything is negotiable.

The overall budget is around 30K, with half of this going on preparing the boat and buying sails all of which can be borrowed, bought and sold second hand.

This funding collection is for all the parts which cannot be but are, however, essential to enable me to start the race in September.

• €6000 is to return the boat by cargo (obligatory)

• €4000 is for Insurance (obligatory)

• €2000 is for the renting of the boat

• €2000 is needed for race entry fees

Should the money raised exceed 12K, all extra funding will go towards the logistics costs of the race and into the boat. Food, airplane tickets, sails, rigging, a petrol generator, ropes.
