Talk on Art and Innovation - Standpoints

What relationship do art and innovation have ? Which new paths can be opened when mixing them ? The art of today is changing as much as our world does : it is becoming more technological, more innovative, and more globalized. The boundaries between art and technological innovation are becoming more blurry. Today, art and innovation are closer than ever before. The talk on art and innovation is taking this opportunity to bring together artists, intellectuals, and representatives of cultural institutions to think about the new possibilities of tomorrow.

This event, taking place on November 6th, 2014, is organized within the context of McGill's Innovation Week, a collaboration between the Quartier de l'Innovation and McGill. The goal of this event is to foster a chain of thought on the topic of art and innovation. It also aims at breaking the gap between professionals and experts of the artistic field, and students who have an interest in the matter. Guest speakers will engage in a discussion based on audience questions. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A. After the event, the speakers and the public will be able to meet and talk in a more informal way.

Who we are:

Standpoints is a non-profit, student-run association that functions as a platform of exchange between the Montreal student body and today’s world leaders. Whether in the domains of economics, science, politics, or culture, we seek to foster the transfer of knowledge and experience from one generation to the next. Moreover, we acknowledge dialogue as the most effective means sharing, learning and generating reciprocal knowledge. We have created an interface for organizing events and meetings, mainly in the form of panels, interviews and debates. Eventually, our objective will be to create a permanent forum for dialogue between the student body (McGill and partner universities), and world leaders across the globe.

Our undertaking can be divided into two distinct but inter-related branches. The first consists of the oorganisationof student-led conferences, debates and interviews. The second branch of the project is the creation of an authentic student think tank. This think tank releases articles about specific, original and striking themes in which ideas, solutions, alternatives and personal opinions are put forward, discussed and challenged. The articles will also supply the topics for the conferences. They will trigger a chain of thought, leading to online debates, and ultimately to conferences.
