Aurora Borealis is a natural light display in the sky that most of us has never seen as it is particularly in the high latitude of the Arctic polar region located at the northernmost part of the Earth. But those of us that has seen it know how amazing it is. I come from Iceland and was grown up in the country side where the northern light can often be seen on a clear winter evening. In Paris I'm often asked about the Aurora Borealis and people are filled with envy when they realize that for me they are a normal experience. Still I think everybody agrees that when you see theme dancing in the sky you take a moment to watch them and realize how lucky you are. So, my intention is to bring the northern light in the city and create a little hidden secret in the heart of Paris.
Between end of February and beginning of March is a period when the Aurora Borealis can often be seen in the north. The plan is to start the installation with a little opening event the 21st of February 2014 where people can come together enjoy the colorful sky and get them selfs hot chocolate or vin chaud.
Aurorae are classified as diffuse or discrete, and the diffuse is a featureless glow that sometimes are not visible to the naked eye, even on a dark night. I intend to make this installation using strings and light. The light will come from a difference sources depending on the time of day, weather and your personal input. In the day the installation will be lit by the daylight but when it starts to darken the street lights will shine trough, also there will be some parts that can only be lit by a flashlight. Bringing a flashlight you can put your own effect on the installation and make personal experience.
Waar dient de collecte voor
The goal is to gain 400 euros, most of the money will be used to by strings and necessary equipment to make the installation (hooks, fasteners, frame and so on).
Around 150 euros will be used in the opening evening and yours rewards. If I get higher than my goal it will only mean one thing! More money… a bigger show:)
