We are Myriam and Pierre, a young couple passionate about travel!
Injured during Paris terrorist attacks in 2015, Pierre has been paraplegic for three years and now uses a manual wheelchair... But that does not stop us from traveling!
Wheeled World is a non-profit organization that we created based on a simple observation: during our trips, we meet very few - TOO FEW - people with reduced mobility... and we understand why!
Beyond the obvious physical limits, there are many psychological limits to wheelchair travel (difficult projection due to lack of information on accessibility, fear of struggle or frustration while traveling in non accessible places, lack of understanding of your real needs by tourism actors…).
What we want is to fight these limits. Make you want to travel. And open the way, to allow everyone to do it serenely, whether they are valid or with reduced mobility.
Our first project: a 14-month adventure around the world that will take us across four continents on a path that is not identified as "accessible" in the strict sense!
We take off in September 2019, destination South America, Oceania, Africa and Asia! Three months per continent for a maximum amount of fun! So many adventures and thrills await us on the way!
We want to prove it: nothing is impossible! You juste need the right equipment, the right teammates... And the right information!
The right equipment
Many sports and leisure facilities exist for wheelchair users (electric wheels, water devices, cross wheels, skates for snow, joëlettes for hiking etc.), but they are often unknown... During our trip, we will try a number of these equipments. Put in situation (and filmed, of course), we will show their usefulness and their limits to share our experience!
The right teammates
During our trip, we will meet other handi-travelers / handi-bloggers and organizations that work for mobility, to understand the perception of disability and the possible solutions in each of the countries we will visit... And make videos of our findings and people we meet, to tell another story about disability. A collective story!
The right information
Finally, we will share all the information about our trip on our blog, our social networks ... And so that they are useful to all, we will also share them on platforms that gather information on accessibility: Jaccede.com and Handiplanet!
Currently planning our trip, we have less than 150 days before departure! We want to use the coming month to mobilize a maximum of people around our project... Ready for the challenge?
Waar dient de collecte voor
The funds from this campaign will be used to fund our wildest activities around the world!
Diving, surfing, climbing the Kilimanjaro, visiting Machu Picchu, paragliding, crossing New Zealand in electric tandem... We are eager to experiment as many things as possible to test our limits and share with you our adventures, our difficulties and our success!
But traveling and wheelchair sports materials are expensive! Our budget is - we must admit - quite significant!
200 000 €, just that ...
- Including 50 000 handi-sports equipment (we told you it was expensive),
- 55 000 transport (not always obvious to hitchhike with a wheelchair, it takes space),
- 66 000 for food and accommodation...
- And the rest for the activities, which are rarely free especially when they require an accompaniment (Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu, entries in the natural parks etc.)...
We count on our partners to help us finance a large part of it and of course we contribute personally, but we need a little help!
By participating in this campaign, you will help us do as many things as possible during this trip: the more we will test activities, the more experiences we will have to share!
In addition, it is by being numerous to engage that we will be able to change perceptions on disability. To help us is to show that you believe in the idea of telling another story, to trivialize the difference.
And since we are a non-profit organization, your donations are deductible to 66% of taxes for individuals and 60% for companies! Isn't it amazing?!
