Context : Water. Whether it is drinking water or water for other uses, such as agriculture and energy, Africa faces a great challenge in mobilizing raw water resources. With 17 major rivers and 160 lakes that irrigate it, the African continent has abundant renewable water resources estimated at over 5,400 billion m3 per year. Despite this abundance of raw water resources, Africa faces the challenge of controlling water for the essential needs of its economic and social development. Indeed, for certain populations, notably those of Benin (a small West African country located between Togo to the west and Nigeria to the east), water is a rare commodity. The distribution network is not proportional to the needs of the Beninese on a part of the territory. On the one hand, because of the lack of structures adapted to water retention and storage. On the other hand, by the lack of works whose realization exceeds the local financial resources. It is estimated that in 2021, 30% of Beninese will not have access to water (Source: United Nations Development Program) The village of Haita : Haita is a small village of less than 500 inhabitants located 27km north of the capital Porto-Novo, more precisely on the Ouémé plateau. In this village and in so many others, many men, women and children are still forced to travel sometimes kilometers to get water, this one being often of bad quality. By conviction, I integrated more than one year ago, a farm allowing to make live partly the inhabitants in the surroundings, but also to develop the Beninese resources abroad. Near our farm, the village of Haita has no connection to the water network. Only a few wells, frequently empty during the dry season, allow the villagers to meet their water needs. This village lives 95% from its agricultural activity, so water is more than necessary to maintain life in this village. This kitty aims at the construction of a well for this village, it will also allow to supply the few neighboring villages.
Allocation of funds
Our goals: -To contribute to the achievement of the SDG 6 on sanitation and provision of clean water for all to the communities of Haita village specifically. This will involve providing water to 15 households through the connection of the village to the water tower of the neighboring farm. -Raise awareness on hygiene and sanitation in their environment. Results : Households have access to water without interruption and their living conditions are improved. Awareness sessions on sanitation and hygiene are organized and households adopt good hygienic behaviors. A community awareness agent on WASH (water sanitation and hygiene).
