Two European filmmakers embark on a thrilling journey through the great Indian wedding season. Their guide is Mahesh Shantaram, one of India's top wedding photojournalists. Together, they will bring a refreshing new perspective to a country that is emerging as a new global power.

Dear friends!   A couple of days ago Vincent and me have met once again in Paris and we are planning to finally complete the editing of our film this month! The film is about 80 minutes long right now and some fine tuning is left. We have been invited to present several sequences of the film to students at the CEIAS (center for South Asian studies) on the 8th of april, from 10:30 to 12:30. Dear friends,   many things have happened since our last message. The editing is going very well and we would like to pass you the info that we will present Matrimania the film in the framework of a parisian film festival on the 29th of january. During one and a half hour we'll show some exclusive footage of the film and answer to the questions of the audience. It's for free so please pass by should you by chance be in paris at that time. The FFAST, the South-East Asian Transgressive Film Festival will happen in Paris between february 4th and 11th.   Many films will be shown there and you will be able to meet many filmmakers including ourselves. Without them, we wouldn’t have hard drives full of exciting material that is waiting to be edited and become the ambitious feature film that we have been working on for so long. </div> <div>  </div> <div> During our two months trip we travelled about 10’000 kilometers across the country, visiting five weddings in five different states and thirteen cities in total. The diversity of the weddings we encountered was fabulous: starting with a traditional South Indian ceremony in Chennai, and ending with a pure Gujarati wedding in Ahmedabad. Alcohol and mocktails, Mutton tikkas and pure veg buffets, silk saris and Jimmy Choo's, 4 hours or 10 minutes rituals… We had it all ! </div> <div>  </div> <div> <img alt="13-copy_540px" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/9174/13-copy_540px.jpg" /></div> <div>  </div> <div> Alongside the bling and the blinger, we also learnt more about the darker counterparts of the Indian wedding culture. Through an interview with a sociologist from Delhi and the testimony of a young woman that had to cancel her wedding because of an uncontrollable dowry, we could undisclose some of the issues that this still highly patriarchal society faces.</div> <div>  </div> <div> You will also learn more about Mahesh Shantaram and his way of working and crafting his outstanding photographs, and how peculiar his personal history made him have a different perspective on his homeland.</div> <div>  </div> <div> <img alt="7-copy_540px" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/9173/7-copy_540px.jpg" /></div> <div>  </div> <div> Soon, we will start the editing of the movie, a process that we expect to be quite long, not to mention that Maximilien lives in Stockholm and Vincent in Paris. Dear friends, We are only at 10 days from the end of our campaign ! In the past days we met a young couple in Bangalore of whom Mahesh documented the wedding three months ago. This encounter was fantastic and was a very interesting first contact with te Indian middle class that we want you to get to know. We also met Satish, whose job is to rent thousand of statues of the god Ganesh... although he's not a believer himself, which is a pretty rare thing is India. Visit our<a href="http://www.jagonpictures.com/matrimaniafilm/"> blog</a> to read more about our encounters and even some first footage of Satish! On tuesday we will leave to Chennai where we will attend our first wedding with Mahesh. There, we will also meet a father that organized the wedding of his son a year ago (althought this organization is traditionally reserved to the bride's family). Through him we will get to know the point of view of a parent that organized a wedding on the importance of weddings in Indian families. A couple of days later we'll fly to Delhi, where our schedule is already quite fulll : a 3 day wedding; an interview with a sociologist; an encounter with a 50 manned traditional wedding band; a woman who canceled her wedding because the dowry asked by the groom's family was too high... Then, we will head to Sangrur and Chandigarh to attend a Punjabi wedding. Then another one in the state of Bilaspur, in Chattisgarh. And last but not least a wedding in Ahmedabad in the rather wealthy state of Gujarat. In our shooting programme is also scheduled a meeting with a Brahman whom we will speak with about religious issues, and an inter-faith couple. We have been interviewed by<a href="http://actuphoto.com/23089-soutenez-le-projet-laquo-matrimania-raquo-de-maximilien-van-aertryck-et-vincent-bitaud.html"> Actuphoto</a>,<a href="http://film.culture360.org/magazine/asef-alumni-collaborates-on-crowd-sourced-project/"> Film360</a> and the blog<a href="http://www.fill-in.fr/2012/11/09/matrimania-the-film/"> fill-in</a> speaks about pour project. Very soon, e-photoreview will publish an interview of Mahesh. Thanks to you, we already collected more than 50% of our goal.
