26 Minutes - Short Movie / Drama - Color - RED Epic / Blackmagic

We are two young authors, Sat Gevorkian, double gratuated in Communication and Cinema; and Guillaume Durand, graduated in Fine Art School.

Naître. Devenir. Disparaître. is our most ambitious project.

We both directed few videoclips for various artists, and a short movie, Hung(a)ry, Grand Jury Prize at Film Festival 7e Lune in Rennes.

We are producers too, by taking charge of half of the budget, wether 5500 €. We start that crowdfunding to round off our budget and to realize that film with YOU

Naître. Devenir. Disparaître. (To Born. To Be. To Vanish.) is a 26-minutes dramatic short film. The movie, which is a mixture of several genres and influences, is a vitriolic portrait of Nikita, a 13 year-old boy determined to protect his 10-year old brother Eliott, from their dad.

The film will be shot in late October, during 12 days, between France and Spain. That film gather 7 talented actors, and a 9 people devoted team.

Confronted to a violent father, Eliott and Nikita are trying to exist out of the family nest, navigating between bike rides and youthful dreams. The memory of their mother now faded forces them to support each other against their young everyday lives' conflicts away from the chaos of the adult word. In order to protect their child’s innocence, the two brothers help each other and let themselves fall into the profound loneliness of the nature. But when one of them disappears, the loneliness is no longer a refuge but turns into a jail which the only option is to accept reality.

The movie is pretty well summed up by its title: Naître. Devenir. Disparaître. This symbolic conception of the daily life is reflected in the two siblings, Eliott and Nikita, one torn between the admiration for his brother and the other one for his father yet violent towards him. This willingness to assimilate, to reproduce and to be able to detach themselves from the physical world is expressed even in the final act, an unintentional but significant act of an unconscious unveiled by the limits of his own consciousness.

NDD is divided into two parts:

The first part, The Innocence, offers a linear frame that draws its visual atmosphere from movies as diverse as Tree of Life (2011) directed by T. Malick, Mud (2014) by J. Nichols or even The Place Beyond The Pines (2012) by D. Cianfrance.

The second part of the movie, entitled Guilt, is notable for its utterly psychoanalytic and modern approach combining influences from “genre cinema” through horror cinema. Thus, we find references to movies such as Fraises Sauvages (1957) and Persona (1966) by I. Bergman, A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) by S. Bayer. The movie is based on Carl Jung’s theories to build the character of Nikita, the main driving force of a solitary quest marked by many encounters until the denouement.

The film will be shot mostly in the Auvergne region in France as well as in the Bardenas Reales desert in Spain.

The scenery largely rooted in Nature. Indeed, the film concentrates in its natural elements 4 sets:

- WATER is very present, especially via the lake, but also through the storm through which the protagonists. It is life, healing, and fills the maternal role.

- EARTH unfolds with the forest, fields, hills and beaten path, trodden by their bikes. It is the palpable reality of young brothers, unlike air.

- AIR joins the divine, the afterlife, daydreaming. The air evokes freedom, flight, escape the brothers cultivate.

- FIRE is the destructive element, which comes to break the link between Nikita to his father. The fire has spread all over the story.

These four natural elements constitute the loophole offered to Nikita Eliott.
