The Submarine Brass Band, un projet cuivré et solidaire

<p> <img alt="Title0_kkbb" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/54131/title0_kkbb.jpg"></p> <p> We are eight students from Ecole Centrale Paris, in France: Alister, Damien, Antoine, Auguste, Kevin, Marc, Walid and Marine.</p> <p>  </p> <p> It all began with a meeting two years ago when we met for the first time in the school’s brass band first rehearsal. It continued later on when we heard about projects connecting music and international solidarity from former students. We began dreaming about our own project: exchanging with other cultures and helping children from around the world through music.</p> <p>  </p> <p> Now we have become far better at playing music together, and our dream became reality. This is why we are proud to come to you with this one year project we have designed: using music as a very powerful <strong>personal development</strong> tool.</p> <p>  </p> <p> <img alt="Tumblr_mkav2rnzeh1s46al4o1_1280_petitkkbb" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/46113/tumblr_mkav2rNzeH1s46al4o1_1280_petitkkbb.jpg"></p> <p>  </p> <p> During six months, from February 7th to August 8th 2014, we will work with 3 local NGOs in 3 different countries: <strong>Cambodia, Madagascar and Bolivia</strong>. These NGOs take care of children who had a very difficult childhood.</p> <p>  </p> <p> We will run music workshops. Our final goal is to build a show with the children which they will be able to perform in front of their comrades. There will be a wide variety of workshops, from body percussion to singing, also including <strong>building instruments from scrap</strong>.</p> <p>  </p> <p> <img alt="Carte2_kkbb" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/46080/carte2_kkbb.jpg"></p> <p>  </p> <p>  </p> <p> <img alt="Titre0-5_kkbb" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/54130/titre0-5_kkbb.jpg">Unicef estimates the number of children living in the street to <strong>130 million</strong>. From undernourishment to begging, these children live in very difficult conditions. Everywhere local NGOs try to help them and to offer them education. But most of these NGOs lack money, equipment or simply staff.</p> <p>  </p> <p> We want to help <strong>both children and NGOs</strong> by including music to their educational program. We will also participate in their communication, both in their own country and in France.</p> <p>  </p> <p>  </p> <p> <img alt="Title1_kkbb" src="https://kkbb-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/project_image/image/54128/title1_kkbb.jpg">Every single one of us in the team has seen his life changed thanks to music. From our own personal experience we consider music to be an incredible tool for personal development. Music makes us <strong>more aware</strong> of others and ourselves. It stimulates our <strong>creativity</strong> and makes us<strong> more confident</strong>.</p> <p>  </p> <p> Moreover, learning music develops <strong>concentration, perseverance and ability to work with other people.</strong> Those qualities are not only useful in music, they are essential for anyone to make good use of any academic education. As we were studying engineering, we have also been working as a team. We selected NGOs in order to prepare our course of actions and to raise funds for the project.</p> <p>  </p> <p> The Submarine Brass Band is also a music band. We rehearse every week and do frequently play for various events. Living as a band allows us to improve the project in many ways: it gives us workshop ideas and allows the NGOs and our project to be more visible since we promote it every time we play.
