On the trail of the Tasmanian tiger !

Project name: Thorynque Expedition

Estimated time: 2 months

Objective: To prove the existence of thylacine

On the trail of the Tasmanian tiger!

“We thought he had disappeared forever, had gone to join the Pantheon of extinct species. But the Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine, might not have had its last word. Based on several documents, CNN reports that this marsupial has been seen several times in recent years. " Lepoint.

"The thylacine, also called marsupial wolf, Tasmanian wolf or Tasmanian tiger, is a carnivorous marsupial mammal about the size of a wolf with a tabby coat. Since 1936, the species has been considered extinct; however, cryptozoology enthusiasts hoped to prove the presence of thylacines in Tasmania in 2013, then more recently in 2017 and 2018. ”Wikipedia.

You will understand, the species is officially extinct but the doubt persists. Is it possible for you to imagine that such an iconic animal could still exist somewhere?

For me no, and it's time to go on his trail!

    Who am I ?

Grownups love numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask you about the essentials. They never tell you: What is the sound of his voice? What are his favorite games? Does he collect butterflies? They ask you: How old is he? How many brothers does he have? How much does he weigh ? How much does his father earn? Only then do they think they know him.

    Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

I will try to answer both.

My first name is Julian and I am 26 years old. Describing your own voice is a bit difficult but you will soon hear me on Youtube if this project takes shape. I have a little brother who is also very fond of animals! I like to play anything and everything, being very curious, I always need to learn new things. I don't collect butterflies but I'm new to photography so it's the same, isn't it?

    Why the Thorynque project?

Excitement, fascination, curiosity… This is what I feel when I think about this project, and this is what I look for, the state of curiosity, like when we as a child.

Animals have been a source of inspiration to me since I was little. The platypus, the peregrine falcon, the cheetah, these are the first animals that made me dream as a child ...

    What is the Thorynque project?

I must confess to you a secret, the doubt about the existence of the Tasmanian tiger is only an excuse to launch an expedition in the state of Queensland (Australia) and Tasmania (Australia).

The objective of the expedition is to make as many encounters and photos as possible of the fascinating animals living in Australia.

Here are some photos :

Being an amateur photographer your advice will be welcome!

But there are above all three species that I absolutely want to meet:

- the platypus

- the helmeted cassowary

- thylacine

And for that I simply intend to bivouac in different wild parts of Queensland and Tasmania.

(The three previous photos come from the pixabay)

    Course of the expedition:

Departure scheduled for early March in Queensland. Sleep in a tent most of the time and close to the wildest areas in order to take as many photos as possible. There will also be videos to follow the progress of the expedition, to follow and share the funny, embarrassing and difficult moments.

Go to Tasmania at the end of March and start the same process over again.

    Material:

- Vehicle: Currently I travel by motorbike, a nice BMW F800 ST but I hope to sell it by then to buy a small car in order to carry more material.

- Photo: Canon 90D with a 70-200mm lens at the moment, but I'm going to need someone with a better zoom for the future.

- Bivouac: Hammock / Mosquito net and tent, I would change from time to time.

    Why in Australia?

I am already in Australia so I can cross the borders between states easily, here the COVID crisis is much less serious than in Europe. This is why I would like to start photography in Australia.

    How to track the shipment?

To follow the expedition, just follow me on Instagram and Youtube, I will regularly post photos and videos. A website is also being created.

In addition, it is a project to share, so it is with pleasure that I await your messages to exchange.

All right, you know the bulk of the project.

I would like to add that the goal is really to take pictures of animals in their environment, while respecting as much as possible the environment and the rhythm of life of the animals.

Feel free to contact me for more information !
