Urgence en RD Congo : financement d'un kit d'urgence Ebola

Why ALIMA?

ALIMA’s purpose is to save lives and provide care for the most vulnerable populations, without any discrimination.

ALIMA brings a new approach to transform humanitarian medicine through research and a unique alliance of organizations and individuals.

ALIMA stands for "The Alliance for International Medical Action". Founded in 2009, ALIMA is a medical humanitarian NGO operating in 10 countries in subsaharan Africa.

Our aim is to provide quality medical care in high-mortality areas, including zones facing conflicts, outbreaks and natural disasters.

ALIMA provides emergency medical assistance to more than 2,500 patients each day in Africa.

We have a recognized expertise on Ebola. In 2014, ALIMA intervened in Guinea during the 2014-2016 West African Ebola outbreak, which claimed the lives of more than 11,000 people. We have participated in several research projects related to the disease including trials on treatments, vaccines, treatments and innovation on individual treatment units.

In 2015 ALIMA was awarded the European Union’s first prize for its response against Ebola in Guinea.

The current Ebola emergency outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo:

On May 8th 2018, the World Health Organisation declared an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This time, the outbreak is not located in a remote area, but in the city of Mbandaka, with a population of more than 1 million people.

The situation is thus critical. The high density of the population greatly increases the risks of diffusion of the disease.

Drawing from its experience in fighting Ebola, on May 20th, ALIMA deployed an emergency team to Mbandaka, to assess the situation and offer medical support to the actors already present.
