Poste Restante, Paris bohemian art film

They say the best things in life take time. My dream is to finish my movie and for this I now only need a small amount of money now in order to do the color grading, sound edit and digitalization of "Poste Restante". The film is now 1h10 minutes long and I would like to add five minutes to it, change some things, including the voice of the father in the film, as well as end images. The film, now in a rough draft phase, needs to be color graded and edited and we ave found a studio to help us do this.

With this money I hope to make available a movie theater copy, and put in place the final sound and image edits. The idea is then to try and do a new projection in the cinema in order to either sell it to television or to a producer or send it unto film festivals.

The long and the short of it is I put all my heart and soul into written and directing a movie about a city I love, Paris, in a triangle between Notre-Dame Cathedral, Shakespeare and Company bookstore and a room with a view. However, after three years, I have not been able to show the film (only a draft copy at the Cinema Galande) in a real cinema. The film has taken years to edit and shoot and the seventy hours of footage have been edited into a movie. It is a pity not to complete it!

I have spent almost twenty thousand dollars including the purchase of a movie camera on the project.

An incredible team of actors (seventy people or more) and and technical people (ten in the team in total) almost eighty people have worked on my movie some for very little money and others for nothing except the possibility of working on a promising movie.

Synopsis

The film revolves around books, love and transformation. It is the story of a girl Silvia who comes to a bookstore and finds love, perhaps not of a man but of a city, as she meets different people and has small adventures. It is set in the most beautiful historical quarter of Paris the fifth arrondissement.

In the lead role is Sylvia Whitman, an actress and the owner of the Shakespeare and Company bookstore (who most kindly lent me her bookstore in order to film it). The male leads include Serge Bozon, an actor renowned French film director (La France, Tip Top with Sandrine Bonnaire and Isabelle Huppert) and Sylvain Tesson (a well-known French writer who penned The Consolations of the Forest published by Penguin and made the film Alone, 180 days on Lake Baikal).

Other characters are played by French actors Philip Suner (the alchemist) Jocelyne Desverchères, Pauline Lefebvre). There are also many guest star appearances including Barbara Carlotti, a French signer who has composed the movie soundtrack (she has graciously not yet released the theme song which she composed for the movie, her other CD titles include L'amour, le vent et l'argent) , yet unreleased and Gabriel Matzneff, a scandalous French writer (Les moins de seize ans) as well as the frères Larrieu (Les Derniers Jours du Monde, L'Amour est un Crime Parfait), French brothers who also make movies.

A young lead actress Pauline Lefebvre as well as Miss Marion, an artist specializing in conceptual striptease also participate in the film.

It is a very stream of consciousness indie film but with alot of passion and inspiration. People who have seen it love it! The edited version was shown in the cinema (a very rough copy) at the Cinema Galande Paris in December 2014 and the small audience loved it. One friend a critic called it a "marvel of poetry", another "a singular world in which they would like to live". The vintage clothes and the nostalgic feeling of the film mean it could have been filmed in 1920 or today. The mix of French actors speaking French sometimes nd English speaking actors makes it a subtle mélange and not at all a parody of expatriate life in the city of writers and lovers.

This seems like a vintage film but captures in essence the desire of this generation to go back to the ideals of the lost generation or the Beats,... the desire to be old fashioned in a modern age.

Sylvia Whitman, lead actress in front of the bookstore

Sylvain Tesson climbing Notre-Dame Cathedral at night

Serge Bozon and Silvia Whitman, the two leads

Other characters are played by French actors Philip Suner (the alchemist) Jocelyne Desverchères, Pauline Lefebvre).
