CURSOR | The Baltimore Code
CURSOR | The Baltimore Code is intended to be a fictional series, set in a dystopian past. The Plot 1986. Society has left many people on the sidelines. Corporations boosted by an energy revolution have taken power, including within democracies that can no longer fight corruption and populism effectively. Computing has undergone rapid development and teleworking has now become the norm, thanks in particular to the universal NoS system, allowing access to a gigantic data network, which has the corollary of the multiplication of many illegal activities, between of hallucinogenic substances and data hacking. Julie is a delivery person working for a powerful corporation. Between two deliveries, from her apartment in the heart of a Shanghai choked by high skyscrapers, she surfs on a parallel and clandestine data and exchange network, called Helmet to search for informations on an urban legend: a code hidden in all the telecommunications that causes extreme behavior. The Project The choice of animation rather than filming, from which I come personally, is not insignificant. In addition to the budgetary aspect, the technique of animation opens up the field of possibilities in an incomparable way. Do, redo, add, focus on the details, create a world from scratch and bring it to life as you go, like a cartoonist. It's magic. The atmosphere of the series is a character all on its own. What could be more natural, obvious to make this cyberpunk, dystopian atmosphere, both luminous and dark, through animation, so much does it lend itself to it. The dystopian universe is an ode to the 80s which saw the birth of the first emotions of personal computing with pioneering computers, today become collectors such as the Commodore 64, the ZX Spectrum or the Amstrad CPC 6128 which were not yet equipped with a graphical interface but only with a command line, to which the series pays homage. The first episode is the object of the collection. As a pilot, his vocation will be to define the atmosphere, the plot, as well as the emblematic characters. If the collection is reached, it will make it possible to envisage the production of an entire season by soliciting new funds from other actors (producers, European and national cultural funds, etc.) during the year 2023. Number of season(s): 1 Number of episodes: About 20 Duration of each episode: 20 to 25 minutes The Author I have been a director of advertising and promotional films for 20 years for many brands, such as Le Coq Sportif, Naval Group, Coca Cola, Warner Bros or NGE. At the same time, I had the good fortune to make several award-winning short films, some of which at several festivals and competitions such as Fubiz, Gettyimages, Driven Creativity or BBIFF. Currently, I am finishing the production of a documentary dealing with refugee children from the war in close collaboration with the NGO ToyBridge which delivers toys in Ukraine and in refugee centers in Europe.
